Use TV on demand until someone comes to your rescue with a replacement, your telly might not be fancy but the bill would be.

Our TV did exactly the same two days ago. Now just switches off about a minute after it goes on. Luckily all the channels I watch are available online.

Re: Anyone know anything about TV's

depends how much you are looking to spend

< 100 quid, get a CRT that someone who is upgrading to a flat screen is getting rid of, they are bringing three sheets of sod all so be choosy, look for panasonic, sony, mitibishi, JVC or other decent brands

>100 but < 300 you will be in the realm of generic brand stuff, do some googling about what panel they use, some use better quality than others.

> 300 I like Samsung and panasonic TVs but others will have their preferences.

Keep your eyes on hotukdeals.com for special offers or look on Laskys etc. John Lewis give a free 5 year guarantee and you can occasionally get them to price match depending on the deals.

Keep your eye on, buy sell & swap, (accyweb), there is bound to be a something worthwhile, on there soon and if it's a trusty regular contributor to the site, (rather than one of the fly-by-nights we seem to be getting a few of lately), You'll be laughing.:D

I know I got a bargain, Thank you, KSH.

Pity really , I was in the TV trade as an engineer , later to be called a techncian, of all things...Time served from 1954 to 1960, retiring due to having Leukaemia in 1992..Had to give up the servicing of TVs etc a long time ago, but would very likely be able to repair your (Telly ) if I was able to get the back off...Sadly given all my trade tools, meter. solderings iron etc away years ago....Now adays we live in a throw away world, so my advice would be to look out for a good second hand TV in the paper or on here. You may just get lucky.......All the best.........Tony

If the one I offered is not what you want, keep an eye out on Freegle/freecycle.
