Why is the flag at half mast today?

Why is the Union flag over the Civic Theatre at half mast today? It's usually flown at half mast for the death of someone like royalty. I took this from wikipedia

The flag may be flown on a government building at half mast on the following days:

From the announcement of the death up to the funeral of the Sovereign, except on Proclamation Day when flags are hoisted to full staff, from 11am until sunset.
The funerals of members of the royal family, upon command of the Sovereign.
The funerals of foreign rulers, upon command of the Sovereign.
The funerals of prime ministers and ex-prime ministers of the UK, upon command of the Sovereign.
Other occasions, by special command of the Sovereign.

they had to lower it due to health and safety regulations that state after a certain height the degree in which a neck is bent to look upwards at an object increases risk of neck strain.

i may put that on wikipedia myself and see how many of the muppets there buy into it lol

It must be true, that is why wiki is having to put a daily limit on how much people can 'look up', on their pages.

So I'll go back to my original question - why is it flying over the Civic Theatre today?

The Union flag is at half mast outside the town hall in Accrington, too.

Re: Why is the flag at half mast today?

It wouldn't be half mast for the Queen's birthday - it's half mast when it's a death.

And it's not for the Polish President's funeral as it's only displayed at half mast until the funeral and that was held a few days ago.

Re: Why is the flag at half mast today?

The flag is at half mast due to the death of Mrs Doris Cassidy who was an honorary alderman of the borough.
