Re: Tesco Nelson
They've fought off all opposition to open a new Tesco in Padiham, even though there is a big Tesco Extra in Burnley. In Rossendale there is Tesco Rawtenstall and another literally 1 mile up the road in Haslingden.
So I was a bit skeptical that they would close Accy Tesco. Even if it loses £60k per week (as rumoured-I'm not saying it's true), that is nothing to Tesco. £1 in every £7 spent in the UK is spent at Tesco. They could hide that loss simply by delaying payment to suppliers by about 3 minutes. They would rather stay open at a loss than allow their competitors to step in. However if they have really closed Nelson Tesco, I guess that shows that it can happen. (I bet the reason is, they're planning to open an even bigger store at Colne to compete with the new Sainsbury's there :) Anyhow, I went for the first time last weekend. The massive car park was half full and it was pretty busy inside. Not dead like some would have you believe. |
Re: Tesco Nelson
So.....has B&Q bought Tesco Extra Accy..or is it just a rumour???.

You've just reminded me there is a positive to Tesco versus Asda in Accy: Asda car park can be a nightmare to get in and out of. Also you end up driving about a mile in circles to get on it. Tesco is a lot easier AND it is sheltered from Accy weather ! Having said that, Tesco is of course too big. They are taking over the country. This is an aspect of them I don't like, and I'd still be surprised if they closed the Accy store, even if it is losing money. |
Re: Tesco Nelson
Was the old Tesco (Accrington) any big?.

Re: Tesco Nelson
It makes you wonder that instead of spending loads of money on the Tesco Express and Extra in Accy they could have opened a Tesco Metro where the old Kwik Save was at the start of Union Street instead of that B&M Bargains?. It would been reaaaaaaaaally cheaper I think than the Extra and Express.
