Heinz Baked Beans...

Just to satisfy my curiosity -how much does a large tin of Heinz Baked Beans cost in the UK? Made myself a treat for lunch yesterday - Bacon (Tulip Streaky is the only kind you can get here) and eggs with fried bread and beans. The beans cost 1-98Euros here in Italy...

For some reason Heinz now brand them as Heinz Beans, rather than Heinz Baked Beans.

Probably cos of that advert song "Beans Means Heinz"?

They probably aren't 'baked' and never were, so they probably have been told to remove 'baked' from the label.

One of the things I found odd when I moved to the US was that Heinz Baked beans and Heinz Tomato soup were not available in American shops , seems both products are only made for the UK market.

I haven't had heinz beans for a long time....then not long ago I had a small tin........they were not as good as I remembered them to be. I prefer Aldi Beans......they have a tastier sauce....much more flavourful.

Re: Heinz Baked Beans...

They are something like 29 pence per tin cashy....so a big chink of money saved if you like beans.

There was something in todays paper about supermarkets and some snobby woman was saying who had ever heard of Solevita fruit juice......or Corale beans.........I'm tempted to write and ask her what she does with the cartons and tins...does she eat them too. Often the products in these less well known brands are eqaully as good as the branded stuff....after all orange juice is orange juice...beans are beans.......what is in a name on a label(apart form a chunk of cash from our purse).

You can try these lesser branded products and if you like them well, you have saved...if you don't like them, then you don't buy them again.
Some of us can't be so sniffy about where we buy our beans and juice.

Might try bringing some Tinned spaghetti hoops back next time I'm over - that would get the locals talking...
As to the price over here I've just realised i bought them at "Esselunga" (which means the long S) - it's part of Berlusconi's assets so I'm sure the profits have been put to a good use!

Re: Heinz Baked Beans...

Strictly on the subject of Heinz baked beans, here are some words of wisdom I learnt at my grandad's knee:

Let the wind blow free
Where ever you be.
In church or chaple,
Let it rattle.

And:

A fart is a gust of wind that gives your belly ease.
It warms the bed in winter, and drives away the fleas.

My grandma's usual respose went something like: Don't be tellin t'lad stuff like that. He'll grow up to be a bad 'un. He'll be in t'boozer every neet.

Could never quite follow her logic, but I can't fault her prescience;):D

seeing as we've moved into the realms of prose, a little ditty we'd caterwaul lustily (as sing wouldn't do our raucous efforts justice) :D

Beans, beans are good for your heart !
Beans, beans make you fart !
The more you fart, the better you feel !
So eat baked beans every meal !

I didn't say it was good, big or clever, but by 'eck ! :D

By the way, we can buy the product in Canada. Just checked out a can I have in my cupboard. The sticker price is 79 cents. Was it Heinz that made the curried beans, and the curried beans with sultanas:confused: Think I'll have baked beans on toast as a little snack tonite, washed down with a bottle of Bomber of course.:dancedog:

Spent all yesterday evening trying to remember the name of the film and it came to me this morning - a classic, was it made in the 80's?
Watched the new "True Grit" last week -not a bean in sight - didn't rate the film much either although Matt Damon is always worth watching..in this film he reminded me so much of Douglas McClure - alias Trampas in the Virginian, used to love watching that years ago..

I agree that it is rude to break wind in company. That's why god created the SBD, so that one could do it, well, silently .... and then blame it on the dog. :gooddog:

Re: Heinz Baked Beans...

talking about dogs and breaking wind......there was an old story that went something like this.....An old lady took her dog to the vet, complaining that he did loud and smelly 'trumps'.
The vet looked at the dog and declared he was in rude health, but perhaps she was feeding him food that was too rich for him.
He asked what dog food she used 'Pal' was the reply.
'yes' said the vet 'too rich for his digestion, get the cheapest dogfood there is and it should cure the problem'.
The old lady left.
A few weeks later the vet saw the old lady out shopping and asked how the dog was.
The old lady told him the the suggestion to cure his wind had worked.......and asked if there was any method she could use to get her husband to eat it too.

OK....I'll get my coat.

Oh, and while you are buttoning your coat ......

A young man decided to be an old fashioned romantic and visit his girlfriend's parents for an informal "let's get to know one another better" dinner. He loved his girlfriend, and he wished to impress. However, his rushed, on-the-run lunch had been a baked bean butty:eek: After dinner, sitting on the couch, he just couldn't hold it any more. But he managed to sneak out an SBD that would burn the paint off a footlocker.:theband: Everyone noticed. And his girlfriend's dad kicked the dog (gently of course), and said, "get outta here". The boyfriend, believing he was safe, let go a mass of gas not seen since the Western Front. And dad kept kicking the dog ... finally he gave it one last kick and said: "get the hell outta here before that sonofabitch craps on ya'all".

There is a cure, requires one extra large, tight fitting cork, some large cans of baked beans, but feed him outside, as the resultant explosion will spoil the decorations if done indoors.
Problem solved.
