Re: A discussion last night .....
Collar - from points in, towards centre. ( There's more cloth on the outside, and needs to be eased in, to avoid creasing.)
Cuffs. Front sleeve, back sleeve and placket. Front, back, front. Shoulder yoke. Preferably hang. If travelling, and needs folding, fold down either side oF collar, so you don't see a crease, if worn under a jacket. |
Re: A discussion last night .....
If too much of a chore, look out for vintage shirts...from Brentford Nylons.

Re: A discussion last night .....
Perhaps this should be in a do-it-yourself section?

Re: A discussion last night .....
The best way to iron a shirt according to Reece is...... Shove it in the dryer for a few minutes when mum aint watching, he's been able to iron for years, if i catch him putting things in the dryer to get the creases out he gets made to get the iron out instead

Re: A discussion last night .....
When Darwendosser pointed out that he could iron shirts better than me I delegated the job
.....and bought him an ironing board for his birthday |

Much easier, and safer, to do it on an ironing board. Doing it whilst it's being worn could cause slight scorching. Both to man, and fabric. http://www.htmlforums.com/systemsmonitor/Burning.gif :D |
Re: A discussion last night .....
I just send 'em to the Chinese laundry. My 'owd mate Pong Dong does an excellent job - 10 for a fiver.

Re: A discussion last night .....
Pick out your oldest shirt that you're on the point of throwing away, put a hot iron on it until there's a nasty scorch mark on it.
From then on whenever you offer to do the ironing, the woman in your life will say, "leave it, you'll only make a mess of it, I'll do it." Worked for me anyway. Not been near an iron in 25 years. ;) |
Re: A discussion last night .....
With a professional steam iron you can give someone a suprise deep cleansing facial, up to thirty feet away.

Yup, what we do differently makes no real difference. Biggest no no, is ironing collars from the centre, out to the points. Because the outer collar is cut larger, because it needs to turn over the underside, you get two nasty little creases at the end of each collar. You see quite a few politicans sporting this look. |

By the way Jay, wouldn't you have just the same amount of ironing but be able to mix with a better class of people if instead of football shirts you wore Polo shirts? :) |

Re: A discussion last night .....
Another tip, whilst ironing shirts.
Never let the iron actually touch the tips of the collar. This is the weakest place on a shirt. Not pressing them with a hot iron will lengthen the life of the shirt. |
