Headmaster's voice: What are free schools? - Telegraph
There you go Eric. The primary School near us is set to become one of these schools.(October) The school will be able to manage its own finances, it will be able to set its own curriculum...decide on when school holidays should be....and even the starting and finishing time of the school day. That is what the parents of children were told when it was proposed. Many parents do not understand what the implications of Free schools are......we will have to wait and see how things go. From what I was told, the school in question went before it was pushed......next year it may have been forced to become a Free School. |
Re: Ok, So What Are Free Schools ... ?
Read one of Cameron's speeches in The Guardian ... some of what he says seems to make sense ... esp. the warnings about the emerging Asian nations. But some of it seems to be "tinkering" with a system that is terminally ill (Ours isn't quite as bad yet ... it's limping painfully to that point) ...

They're based on a Swedish idea.
We can pick them up flat-packed at IKEA, but they charge us for them. So they aren't really 'free'. Free school (England) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia :D |

Re: Ok, So What Are Free Schools ... ?
Most schools, whether they be Free Schools or not accept donations.......mainly from parents. Our local school is always on the cadge for something.
And yes, I know you meant money from business people. don't the schools run by the Muslim community do the same thing....and how many Christian children do they accept?? Of course that isn't the same thing in your book because it's not something instigated by the Coalition government..... so it escapes your political jibes. Do you ever post anything that doesn't have a political axe to grind??? |

It is no more apartheid than having chidren of different faiths educated in different schools. Our local school happens to be Church of England....there is also on a little further away which is Roman Catholic...then there is another one which has no ties to any religion. The apartheid you speak of, that was prevalent in South Africa permeated every aspect of the Black and coloured peoples lives......homes, jobs, where they could go to see a film/play...where they could eat out(that is if they could afford that luxury...........which many could not). It is not the same at all.....and should not be viewed in the same light. If you are going to come on here and talk about such serious subjects as apartheid...then make sure you know what you are talking about first. |
