Toast...what do you like on yours?

A favourite comfort food of mine, a strange question you may think but what do you like on yours?
My mother is staying with me for a holiday and favours Bananas on toast!
(Possibly because they live within site of a banana plantation on Tenerife)
She speads a slice of toast generously with honey then adds banana slices and squishes them on top. I don't fancy it but she insisits its great.
A summer favourite of mine is what they call "Bruschetta" in Italy ( read as brusketta), you rub a slice of toasted crusty bread with garlic and then top with a mixture of seasoned chopped tomato and basil in olive oil.:alright:

My sister used to go to Accy Catering College and the first thing they learned to "cook" there were tomatoes on toast - followed by sardines on toast:)

Marmalade...the dark sort with thick peel...the more peel the better.
Vegemite.......a much nicer flavour than Marmite...sort of smoother and without that horrible bitter back taste.
Sliced fresh tomatoes.....a pinch of salt a pinch of sugar and pepper.
Peanut butter.......lovely.
Nutella...but only smeared on very thin.

No problem with marmite, but my favourite has always got to be,

Toast, Peanut butter, plenty of bacon, raw onion stuck under the grill until the cheese I'm melting over the top is just about to self combust or else turn to charcoal.

I eat it not with a napkin tucked to prevent spillage but instead a full bath towel.

I usually end up if all goes according to plan, still having to go through a change of clothes,

Nothing beats a decent gorge on sticky and drippy food.

I've got to admit I used to like those home made toasties, could always make an interesting snack out of almost anything.

My problem was over ambition, I would cram so much filling in it was almost impossible to close the machine.

The above toastie only has about 10% of the ingredients that can be fitted into it, if a little determination, aided by a pair of mole grips to keep the lid shut is used.

Eric, I like fried bread too...but I don't have that very often either.
And just by the way...there was an article in the paper that says they have changed the recipe of HP sauce.......taken 26% of the salt out of it.......for health reasons.
I hate the fascist health police......aren't we big enough and ugly enough to decide what we want to eat...and whether it will do us harm......the alcoholics and the drug addicts are allowed to have their 'poison'....but HP sauce(the original) has to be tampered with 'for our health'.

Pity ... a little wander here. Anyone remember throwing spuds in the fire until the skins were all charred; then taking them, peeling of the black bits, and eating them salted .... sometimes a little butter or marg if we were flush, which wasn't very often.

"Victorian age recipe, toast sandwich, which consists of a slice of toast between two slices of bread and butter, and some pepper and salt for taste is UK's cheapest meal, according to the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). The meal costs 7.5 pence and was first promoted by Victorian food writer Mrs Beeton."

Everything we ingest is a poison for us - from the moment we are born the very air we breathe is slowly killing us -it is necessary for every chemical reaction in the body and makes our cells age, eventually because of this we meet our demise. Are you aware what 'canola oil ' is?
THE DANGERS OF CANOLA OIL

YUK:eek:

I like the taste of butter but it makes me ill, I can eat anchor lighter spreadable and I'm ok, so I suppose the canola oil can't be doing me that much harm and it must be better for you than the totally manufactured spreads - if you took note of everything they reckon is bad for you you'd never eat anything! I haven't looked at the link because as a grumpy old woman I get annoyed at killjoys/do gooders who try to tell people how to behave and live their lives .Anyway I like to live dangerously!

I've just done a bit of research into canola oil which is also known as rapeseed oil and it has a lot of very beneficial effects on the body including apparently lowering cholesterol, and is also good for the heart and blood. Just goes to show that you can get completely opposing information when searching on the internet.

My toastie thing is a beef paste sandwich just popped into the toaster, simple but heaven, and if I am feeling posh when it's cooked in the toaster, I put crisps on. Plain only, no strange flavours that would be disgusting.
