What is the Capital of the World?
Just read an interesting article written by John Parker about this very question. (In a spin-off magazine To the Economist with the rather pretentious title of "Intelligent Life" lol ! Why do I read this magazine you might ask....)
Over time it has been Rome, Constantinople, London and New York. On a scale of 1 to 5, Parker rates each of the following cities on: Power and Influence, Income and Wealth, Education, Global Connections and Culture. The cities he considers are Beijing, Dehli, London, Mexico City, Mumbai, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and Washington. I think there are others he could have considered such as Buenos Aires, Berlin, Paris, Moscow and Rio. My vote goes to London , I only score it down a bit for Power and influence in the light of the economic crisis, but for you what is the Capital of the World? |
Re: What is the Capital of the World?
When we have world government,
(the New World Order being spouted by some misguided leaders), it is expected there will be three main cities - London - financial capital Rome - religious capital Denver - military capital ...but pigs will fly won't they :D PS you may wonder where the political capital is - unneccessary, when you have totalitarianism, and military are needed for population control*, not war. *that isn't birth control:rolleyes: |

And China doesn't own America, Canada does. The annual volume of trade between America and Ontario is greater than that between China and America. And America runs on Canadian oil.:D I don't know what happened to Peking:confused: ... I think it's been replaced by lap dancing (See thread in General Chat.:D |

According to Michael Moore in his docu-film about 9/11 the Bin-Laden family owned about 7% of the US economy in 2001....that sounds like quite a lot for a family concern. |

Re: What is the Capital of the World?
Just seen the result of The Economist's pole:
NY 34%, London 21%, Singapore 18%, Washington 6%, Shanghai, Beiijing and Dehli 6% Brussels as future capital of the U.S. of Europe doesn't figure. Africa, Australasia and the Middle East don't figure.. Some have suggested that instead of the original 5 parameters(see beginning of thread) other factors should be considered such as: Cleanliness, Health, Green Space, Happiness and the gap between Rich and Poor.... summed up perhaps as Liveability. |
