Could I get thumped for taking pictures.
As one who takes pictures on a daily basis, and around the general public areas, have I a right to photograph any area, and any person that is classed as "Public" ?
So that is the question can I click in public? |
Re: Could I get thumped for taking pictures.
I'm not sure.
There have been times when I have asked people if they minded being in my pictures......there are times when people have apologised for getting into my pictures. If someone objected then I would not snap, them or if I had already snapped them then I would delete that picture. I think photo's are an important record of social history. But that doesn't answer your question....sorry. |
Re: Could I get thumped for taking pictures.
If that's the case surely all the press photographers can get thumped.

Re: Could I get thumped for taking pictures.
Generally yes, but there are situations & conditions when you may not. Common sense in most things should get you through, but don't be surprised if some clueless busybody or even worse an over officious (& usually ignorant) member of the plod cite the terrorism act & sect 44.
Here a few pointers. http://www.urban75.org/photos/photog...d-the-law.html |

Re: Could I get thumped for taking pictures.
A question that is not answered in the link is, shops and councils have installed CCTV and handed the monitoring to the police, so that your every move is monitored, public and private shops have internal monitoring, ATM's take your photo when you withdraw money. Calls are recorded when you ring the Council, Utility firms, we have all heard the statement "calls are recorded for training purposes".
So do I have the same right to take pictures wherever I choose, as I was never asked if I want my image capturing from when I leave the house to when I return. This is all in the name of security, yet I could be stopped using the same argument. I'm rambling now, time for a bowl of pobbies |
Re: Could I get thumped for taking pictures.
try doing that in or near a childrens school or play and see how long it is before you are arrested,pc gone mad.We are being filmed and photographed every day by big brothers cc tv yet there is no such freedom re the taking of picture3s,at the end of the day its common sense, ask before you take a photo then you know where you stand.

You can take pictures at school plays now

Re: Could I get thumped for taking pictures.
I prefer to take pictures of people in their natural state(unposed).....and sometimes I will snap a person and show them the picture then ask them if they mind me keeping it.
Only one lady has objected and I deleted the image in front of her. I did take a picture of a lady briskly walking along the esplanade at Llandudno....I tried to show her the picture, but she was either deaf or thought I was a mad woman stalking her(I was a bit windblown)...she didn't respond to my loud 'excuse me's' and her walking pace was so brisk I couldn't catch up to her...in the end I gave up. Some people are quite delighted(or they give that impression) with my pics of them. A couple of elderly ladies on the seafront at Sandown asked for a copy of the picture I had taken. They didn't understand that I couldn't just print off the picture for them there and then - but I did get a grandson's e-mail address and e-mail it to him......he told me that he had printed a copy off for both of them and they were really pleased with a souvenir of their holiday. Maybe I could go into business:). |

Its a bigger topic than I thought, not that it will stop me taking street pictures, I will carry on regardless.
Just thought if you are in public then its all fair game, my image is captured from the moment I venture out of my house! I will stop mooning the cameras though, as its giving me a bad back:moon: |
