Polish WW2 medals.

Can any members help my wife? She is in possession of her late fathers WW2 medals and uniform badges and is wondering what they are and if they are of any value. Her father was a sergeant in the Polish Army and was stationed at Low Moor in Clitheroe for a while.

Pictures may help, plus a time scale where & when did he serve ? Failing that try some of the Militaria sites or shops if there's any local.

Happened a lot during the war I'm sure. Just wondered if there were any Polish relatives you could turn to for help - doesn't sound like it though.

That's one of the sites I mentioned earlier - great minds think alike.

No he had a bad time in the war, he saw two of his brothers shot dead by the germans left to float down the river. All the remaining members of his family are in the States or Poland.

Re: Polish WW2 medals.

Appears to be a right mixed bag, there's UK decorations & Polish along with regimental badges & dog tags.

First one: Polish Army medal, 1939-45 Star UK - Cassino Cross (battle of Monte Casino Italy 1944), Defence medal UK, War medal 1939-45 UK, Cross of valour 1920.

Re: Polish WW2 medals.

As to the other bits & pieces Insignia (chest) Polish 3rd Carpathian rifle Division, the same but probably as a collar dog, Cap badge of the free Polish Army in UK, the last appears to infer Mountain troops (unit/trained) due to the "Edelweiss" emblem.

This looks like one of your father in law's (top left in first picture) but it's a rare version so yours may not be worth as much.

We have one just like that with the same inscription, but I don't know if it is one of the rare ones.

I think what makes it rare is the maker's mark on the edge: look at the small picture 5 on the link I gave earlier.

Those medals deserve to be mounted on a proper board behind glass, & on display, not kept in a cardboard box, Stanislaw risked his life in conditions very few people can imagine these days.
