Hugh Davies Poems

Does anyone read Hugh Davies' poems which are regularly printed in the Accy Observer and Telegraph? What are your thoughts on them. I think they are terrible. A primary school child could do better. I only read them because they are so bad.

I miss reading them in the Observer when they used to print a different one each week in the car sales section. Now they tend to print the same one each week. I think they're good, if you can do better Claytoner40, nows your chance, give me a sample of one of yours.

As someone who doesn't read the print Observer I haven't a clue about these. Is it possible to see one online so I can see what they are like?

I didn't say I could do any better I just said they were bad. They are very childish. He's no John Keats.

Re: Hugh Davies Poems

I have just read them and while i can see they are not great literature i'd give him 6 out of ten for trying. They are not really childish -just a little twee and to be honest he hasn't put anything of himself in them -though these two are about the royals so perhaps that's why!

It's hard to write something original and poetry is probably the hardest form of all. You have to open up yourself and express what's inside to transmit emotion and those sentiments which we are all capable of engaging with.

Ahem, If I may ? ;)

There was a young Maiden named Kate,

Who went out with a Prince on a date,

When he whipped out 'is Mac'roons,

The poor Girl fair near swooned,

And the Nation was over the Moon !

Classical literature I think you'll agree, right up there alongside your greats such as Hill & Carson (Benny & Frank) :D

Now, are you quite sure about that, church? Because, if Marli is expressing regret over your somewhat unkind suggestion that Hugh's poems may have been published simply because he was taking advertising in the paper, I reckon she's directing some pretty negative vibes towards you...and quite rightly so! The very idea!

when i read response, i presumed, that marli had taken my comment in a negative way

there are quite a few on here who dont post what they mean and sarcasm is order of the day, however this wasnt the case and it was a genuine welcome

but then i could be completely wrong, and its not always about ME!

They probably said that to Shelley when he started off on this poetry caper. Give the lad time - he's probably not stocked up on enough rhyming words at the moment!

John Keats poems were not well received by his critics during his life either. Now they are some of the most popular in English literature.

May not be a poetic genius but certainly unrecognised. I came across Hugh Davies poems on Write Out Loud - an on line hub for poets. I found them funny and humorous, full of wit and wisdom with rich rhyming and flow.

How profound. Totally irrelevant as we can all read Hugh Davies 'poetry' and reach our own conclusions but still very profound.
