Morcambe Bay Walk
My friend at work is doing this walk and I have decided to join him. I am a little late and signing up- so I have gone the online route. I will be doing it with some people from my friends church- :D
Anyway. I read the rules and know I cannot use the forum . So I wont link it here. I was wondering- Has anybody done this walk? it is 9 miles. |

Re: Morcambe Bay Walk
Did it several years ago for charity. Morecambe Bay that is Rob.;)
As long as you are part of a party lead by an official guide you'll be OK. Usual walking guidelines apply. Appropriate footwear Rucksac Clothing layers Wetwear Water/Refreshments Susie123 will probably advise too. |

I believe that you can walk in water up to a foot deep.

I did the walk in 2007 in aid of the bursary fund at UCLAN, my alma mater. There is a walk most weekends for various charities, depending on tides. There were nearly 600 of us, with the official guide, Cedriic Robinson. The guide is essential as the channels can change course very quickly. It was a lovely sunny day in May when we went so we didn't need the wet weather stuff. Wear old shoes, they will get sodden. A lot of people took them off on reaching the river channels which can be quite deep. Roll your trousers up - the water came over my knees but then I am only five foot nothing. Don't know what the arrangements are for the return but we were supposed to get the train from Kent's Bank. As there were so many people waiting, we went to the pub round the corner to let the crush die down. Think that's all I have to offer. It really doesn't seem like nine miles so - enjoy and hope the weather's fine! |

I thought it wasn't hot enough for sunburn. How could I be more wrong. I can barely stand with the sunburn on the back of my legs :) |
Re: Morcambe Bay Walk
So you didn't get wet but you did get sunburnt. Still, it didn't rain. Seemed quite deep in places!. I'll bet you didn't get a ride on the tractor.
I liked the music - very haunting. |
Re: Morcambe Bay Walk
Well. You was 100% spot on about getting wet. Feet & Legs. It was different from what I imagined. I didn't expect 4 hours of constant sand and almost constant wet feet... .:D it was fun though and took me by surprise when it seemed like we was walking in the sea for at least 5-10 mins up to our waists... that is what did the damage to my legs. Ha. Salt water and wind and sun.... plenty of pics.. I have to download my friends pics... prob pic the ones out that I am in and share them... too many to show in one post on here due to 10 pic rule so I might use a photobucket album
