C.a.t.c.h
Hi guys and gals. As a proud Accringtonian I'm starting a campaign to pressure for improvement in our Town Centre. We are a week old but gathering momentum at a fast pace. We have, twitter and Facebook pages and today I have launched a website. Catch Front Page content will be added shortly. I would appreciate it if you could spare a few minutes to peruse our pages to find out a little bit more about what we are trying to achieve. LET articles (today) and an Observer article next week are generating a buzz around the Town and I hope that more of you will Join us in lobbying, engaging and helping to raise standards and aspirations in the town. Thanks.

What seems strange is your short history but extensive publicity. If you really are the person you claim to be, why only one post? It seems as if you have been invented, in hopes that a cascade of followers will welcome you. Not happened so far has it? If however, you aren't part of some Council publicity stunt, please PM me, many on AccyWeb and within the community would welcome a chinwag. |
C.a.t.c.h
Even if you are part of a Council driven stunt, we, the public wouldn't mind a chinwag so long as you don't attempt to talk down to us.

I really do like the idea, just find it strange how a mere mortal could manage the publicity??? |

Councillors who speak when they want your votes, then vanish when they have their two years, MP's who are high profile until they actually become an MP then run to the hills posting 'look what I'm doing pictures' on twitter (without really doing anything but grabbing free lunches at local businesses) We've pointed out ways to raise standards, posted photos of grotspots, some have even attended council meetings. We've argued policy, procedure, dog fouling, bench removal, pound shops, party political bickering, maundy, bus stations, pennine reach etc..etc.. and got absolutely nowhere! We are jaded, cynical and mistrustful. I'm glad someone is there to pick up the banner because we've all carried it at one point and retired to the pub in abject defeat |

they prefer facebook because they have total control over what they allow people to see
disagree and point out a serious flaw or lie and bang that post gets deleted and you get blocked dont like something said on here they have to cry to a mod or admin and hope they are sympathetic |

Over 3/4 (75%) of it, rambled on about what the other lot were doing wrong and that we should remain in the EU. The remainder was his Bill, which on the face of it will improve the living conditions of some tenants - no percentage given, perhaps his standard 75%, but unlikely. He does not appear to understand that increase in costs to a landlord will inevitably mean an increase in rents. Perhaps Labour will increase Housing Benefit. At no point does he spell out what Labour will do if they get into power - will they reduce taxes, increase benefits, increase immigration, scrap the bedroom tax, increase Local Government, NHS, Fire Service, Police funding. One thing they will not do is take us out of the EU - the public do not understand why we should remain in the EU:rolleyes: It makes me sick to hear such pompous drivel from someone whose view of the population of Hyndburn is that they are knowledgeable enough to elect him, but totally unable to make a decision on what we consider is best for us - particularly regarding EU Membership. |

I note that there has not been any further posts by the originator of this thread - wonder why?

Oh you are a Cynical bunch ! Fellas, ladies, I am a mere mortal ( a very internet literate, savvy one) with one thing... massive amounts of passion, drive and energy; which before you say it....won't get knocked out of me, I can assure you of that. I'm an Accringtonian born and bred and believe in this town. The problem I have is that apathy has gripped everyone including Town Hall,we feel like its the end of the road and we can't do anything about it. Well I'm here to preach the gospel of people power, the more people imvolved the more change will happen. I seek no financial or political gain from this campaign just to have some pride and satisfaction that I'm getting off my arse to do something about it instead of sitting around moaning about it ! If anyone would like to help us spread the gospel then join us.....remember Apathy is relaxing it doesn't take any energy ;-)
Mr Farrer, hang your head in shame.....we know each other, message me and I will reveal all. If you want to get in touch good or bad I'm all ears. [email protected]. Front Page |

Then some new kid on the block comes from nowhere to announce a super new initiative, then goes away, nothing, zilch, nada from you. The thread would have died a death on its first post if I hadn't added cynicism to it. Only now after the hard work of building up interest amongst members do you return to tell us of massive amounts of 'passion, energy & drive'. Is this because the above attributes are delegated to others so that not only is the ball kept rolling but also to get the damned ball moving in the first place? Remember you're thread was dead in the water because of your lack of energy to return and keep plugging. P.S. who's server are you using to host your website, I believe there's plenty of room on Hynburns since their last website died a death. P.P.S. At last time of looking, although you take advantage of AccyWeb to put a link to your website, you have not reciprocated by putting a link to our site on there, very impolite! ;) Attachment 32562 |
Re: C.a.t.c.h
I heard him on the radio this morning ... he said broadway needed powerwashing .. to get rid of the chewing gum and bird .... on there to make it look better ... Claire Pritchard said that is being done wk commencing 12th august .. it has been in the works programme since feb ... then he said to attract more shops ie national chains to accrington eg next and Debenhams .. theyre not going to come to accrington .. no 1 they have their shops in Blackburn .. it would be too close .. no 2 how many people live in accy .. compared to Blackburn .. why do they fixate on getting a next .. will people be more attracted to accy because we have a next ..
by the way if you listen to the programme .. it started about 8.20am they were on for about 5 mins .... |

No, PM's even though requested, no answers to simple questions, no venturing from your own thread to show your mind can deal with more than a singular topic and no real input that gives us much enthusiasm. I've already said that I like the idea, no doubt the majority of the site, like the idea, but are we being drummed into a fervour of enthusiasm? Perhaps the heater on the air product is turned to full? Please prove me wrong, give me and perhaps others a reason to believe. :) |
Re: C.a.t.c.h
Belief comes from within sir......I'm on here for one reason and one reason only, that is to see how many people share our campaigns objectives and are willng to commit time and effort into improving OUR Accrington. Attitudes, standards and aspiration need to change from everyone in the town including its residents before we will ever move forward, negativity is a self limiting prophecy. I will continue on my journey of self discovery and will contiue to enthuse myself with the belief in the objectives of the Campaign....improvement through engagement. Hopefully we can generate some enthusement about OUR town.
If you want to come along for the ride that's fantastic.....if not well "hey ho" I will afford you your cynicism and mistrust, after all your entitled to your views as you've seen people like me "Come and Go" Just one parting thought afore I go though..... What came first, the chicken or the egg ? (That should generate some stimulating and witty responses for the longevity of the thread and your continuing mirth ) ;-0 Many Thanks for time and your continued cynicism ! I hope I will win you over one day, until then......I will keep plugging away. Cheers and all the very best ! Mark Brown. |

Re: C.a.t.c.h
In my book the word Sir is a bloody insult, I DON'T like that word and never have done, it were the so called sirs that led to the deaths of 100's of Accy Lads in WW1, as the Germans said, they were LIONS led by DONKEYS.

that alone puts you head and shoulders above our MP he dosnt give a stuff about the town were just too thick or stoopid to be given consideration on anything too serious and should be greatfull for him making all the big decisions for us using his vast knowledge gained as a printer i smoked a powerfull joint in amsterdam, took some pictures of prostitutes and got mistaken for a terrorist in barcelona id say that makes me more qualified than him to make a decision on the EU :D good luck with your efforts im not sure whats been hinted at but if this is some ploy to make mugs of teh people of accy then taht would be a shame becaus eit was only a few weeks back i was mentioning how the people of accrington of old all banded together and built accrington victoria hospital and what a shame it is teh town wouldnt even dream of doing that in todays times.Hats off to you if you are genuine mate which until evidence saying otherwise is presented i will assume you are :D:) |
