What surprises you the least?

That a tory MP defects to UKIP?

That a tory MP is caught with his pants down?

That anyone should be surprised by that type of behaviour from an MP. ;)

Maybe I should have left out "tory" .... wouldn't want to sound like C'mon ... of course, he would have made it a poll.:D

What about fiddling their expenses, or accepting favours as a result of their position.

Me too ... when something happens all the time and is never punished ("Recall" would be a good idea ... so good no politician would ever go for it) one tends to take it for granted; it's something not even worth bringing up. "Politician Lies" is not a headline that would surprise anyone. The only politician I'm aware of who never lied, or did it infrequently (once in a blue moon, maybe), was Tommy Douglas.

The phrase 'lessons have been learned'.......yet over and over the same kind of things happen......child abuse, fiddling expenses, hospital blunders.....incompetent civil servants.
If behaviour does not change then nothing has been learned at all.

Ah, that old chestnut, what they mean by that is,that they, won't make the same mistakes as they did last time that got them caught.

I believe one could write a coherent speech using nothing but cliches and platitudes (or platypuses ... platypi:confused::D ... if you are in Australia). Come to think of it, stuff like this solemnly graces the pages of daily newspapers and appears regularly in tv interviews.

It usually starts with something like this: "My fellow Canadians (Americans, Britons, etc. ... take your pick ... although in Canada one has to use both official languages.:D)

Order! Order! Objection.

He didn't get caught with his pants down.
He's a Tory Minister(or was) so naturally he was wearing Paisley Pyjamas!!
One has to maintain a little dignity and style, what? Even when one is trying to excite someone.

What sort of nutter thinks he looks sexy in Paisley pyjamas? Even if he had the front- ( I can't go on, I'm feeling sick).
It makes you wonder what other strange things some of our rulers are getting up to.
The biggest laugh is it wasn't even a young woman he sent them to, it was a man. I'll bet those photos went round the office in seconds!

Its very hard to say what surprises me least, I would say NOTHING at all surprises me, about those who represent the british public.

Of course the gutter presses sticky fingers are all over this, he had been swapping texts and tweets with a reporter posing as a 20 something Tory Google Page Ranking girl

Entrapment or what?

No Cashy, of course it isn't.......in fact you are echoing pretty much, the sentiments of many of us on here.
After all what is cynicism, but realism in workaday clothes!

She sent him an explicit naked picture and Brooks Numpty Newmarket asked her to send raunchier one.
No fool like an old fool.

The thing is, if he hadn't been up for such naughtiness then he could not have been entrapped.
You cannot trap someone who is honourable and honest....which many of those who represent us, are blatantly not.
These people think they are so far above us....and somehow subject to different rules in life.

At least he has done the decent thing and resigned.
It is his family I feel sorry for.......for goodness sake he has a wife and five children...what must they think of this debacle?

Of course it's entrapment.
But if it was tried on you would you do what he did?

An emphatic no on that one Mr B

Let's face it, unless you still have a Polaroid camera, any image you take will pass through someone else's hands and/or a machine which can be hacked.

With mobile devices, you should assume that any rude image you take can be seen by someone else if they try hard enough.

The current Mrs P reckons I'd need a good ironing before I take any explicit pics of myself to send anybody.:D

I look like a hairy beached beluga whale. No chance of any knob pics on my mobile - it doesn't do very good macro shots.

Love your sig, D. Will use it to explain away any conspiracy theory from now on...

I never take any rude pictures....my pictures could be shown to the pope and he would not turn a hair.............There is no chance of anyone getting hold of rude pictures of me because I hide from the camera even when fully clothed.
I don't get this obsession with selfies........OK, I know...it's because I'm old!

The male reporter posing as this young Tory girl targeted 4 other Tory Mp's too. A fishing expedition.

And as Zoe Williams Guardian columnist says today, "You have got to question the intelligence of Newmark embarking on a sexting adventure - believing that a 24 year old wants to see him naked"

Just about sums him up Margaret.
Numpty is another description. In 2010 he had to apologise the the House of Commons for being too drunk to vote.

Re: What surprises you the least?

I can't understand how grown men can be so stupid, once it's on the internet it's every-bodies and anybodies.
How a man so stupid could make a fortune in banking just shows how easy and bent banking must be.

Mind you, back in the late fifties I made the same mistake using the technology of the day.
The love of my life and I couldn't see each other every night(too much homework) so between doing homework we would write each other love letters, ending in the usual BURMA, SWALK etc. They'd be fairly innocent I suppose but quite fervent.
A nice lad in a lower year used to deliver them for us, he lived near her.
I should have known what would happen- stupid!
It was a long while before he admitted he and his mates used to take them straight home, steam them open, read them and reseal them before delivery. Well, not many of us had telly then and this was their soap opera. I thought of killing him but didn't quite.
I probably still wore Paisley pyjamas in those days too but luckily I didn't have a camera.

It's a well known scientific fact that for much of a male's life his brain moves from between his ears to between his legs. Or, as one of my exes used to say when I passed up a (boring) piece of ass to go watch hockey with my buddies: "It must be a dick thing."

Isn't that where a man's brains resided - hence the saying when zip not fully pulled up "Your brains are hanging out again"

Re: What surprises you the least?

One of those that were targeted has complained to the IPSO about it as it says in the totally unbiased Guardian who only mention once they had nothing to do with creating the IPSO because they only publish state secrets putting intelligence agents and armed forces lives at risk and would never stoop so low as to get involved with sex scandals.

Link here Brooks Newmark sex sting: Ipso to investigate Sunday Mirror | Media | theguardian.com

Most newspapers will do anything for a story and I see nothing wrong with the Sunday Mirror testing the integrity of a few MP's. It's just a shame the MP who complained isn't doing anything to protect us against telephone/internet scammers - maybe he will now he has been a victim himself

Perhaps the bait was either:-

A/ Too old.

B/ The wrong sex.

or

C/ A combination of A & B.

For the other four?

That could be the answer...or it could just be that they were more savvy when it comes to spotting the risks.

most apps especially free apps make you wave your rights away to your photos on your phone before they let you use the application you are installing.Usually says authorize access to your contacts ,libary and photos or something similar

even if you dont take dirty pictures with your phone but have them on your pc or tablet once you connect your phone it will try and sync media so you could end up accidently putting them on your phone.

not much need to hack peoples phones all you have to do is show people an AGREE button and they will press or click it and wave away their privacey

accyman 02-10-2014 13:04

Re: What surprises you the least?

forgot to mention

if you ever wonder how your number has fallen into marketing cold callers hands especially if its a new number its most likely because your friend or friends have signed away your number in their contacts list

its no longer a matter of how carefull you are with your details your friends can give them away the second they add it to their phone especially if they have already put in a free app or any app that allows access to their details.

i bet most people dont even question why a game slashing fruit needs access to your contacts and photo libary
