Prawns

Well I luv' 'em can't get enough, treat myself to a packet every week.

The thing is, other than size, what's the difference between cold water prawns and king prawns?
At my local shop 150g of the former =£1.65 (£1.10/100g)
The latter 150g=£1.79 (£1.19/100g)

So I'm buying the same weight & logic tells me I'm getting the same amount of meat in each packet, but why the price difference?
If anything surely the smaller prawns should cost more because more of them have to be peeled to get the same weight therefore more labour intensive?
Anyhow I'll continue buying smaller (cheaper prawns) and cramming them on my butties and enjoying them with plenty of salad cream to wash them down.

Don't quote me on this Less but I think that a king prawn is another name for a (languestine), don't think that is spelt right but never mind, anyway it is a form of small crayfish found in deep northern waters, where common prawns can be caught in inshore "coastal", waters therefore easier to trawl for.

No I won't quote you (oops silly me I already have) the main reason being:-
Quote:

What is the difference between a langoustine and prawn?

The difference between scampi (langoustine) and prawns is that the scampi belong to the lobster family and prawns to the shrimp family. The langoustine is caught here in the North Sea and the gambas are not.
Taken from google.

Now, that begs another question, What the heck is a gamba? I've never heard of it.

I could be wrong, but I had the impression that gambas were shrimps cooked with garlic.

That could be closer to the mark than what I found:-

What does "gamba" mean?
(gambas is the spanish word for prawn) - Name for a girl with a hot body but ugly face - taking off the head is much easier to digest.

Re: Prawns

Less, an Australian King prawn is a prawn without equal, in my opinion anyway. It is bigger than the ordinary prawn, much meatier. If bought raw these are great cooked as is or with garlic, or breaded and fried. Just the best.

By the way, I never buy prawns that are a product of Vietnam, Thailand, or similar places – I don't trust their waterways.

As Margaret said - gambas are shrimp cooked in garlic and olive oil.

Not here you aren’t.
We are just noting a historical observation of what used to be said.

Taddy, there are also some less-than-handsome men about, so does this same maxim apply regarding them?

(Don't worry about the woke police, doubt there are any on this site as we are too sensible a lot - though some might think that is debatable, really!).

Actually "Good on yer, Sport!" I believe is the expression. ;)

And on GBNews "Christys feast" yesterday evening they did mention that since the highlighting of UK pushing for offshore registration (turn up illegally & end up in Rwanda, there to fulfill your hearts desire.) In the last 8 days, not a single "Gimmie Dinghy" has been detected or landed on UKs shores ......

Now I'm well aware of spin & deflection, maybe, the real reasons for this rare occurence are completely different, bad weather, the frog border plod actually doing their job or some other such thing. Still, I'd like to think Priti & BoJo have actually gotten something right in the defence of the UKs borders, we shall see.

Oh dear Son…..what is this ‘gotten’……?
There is no such word.
Well, of course there wasn’t until it was coined by those yanks.
‘Gotten’ is a horrible lazy word….(I do not really like the word ‘got’…..there are other words that mean the same and sound better) and I know that I do not usually pick holes in anyone’s post…..but really, I thought you were better than that.
Ok……sermon over get back to what you were doing.

Margaret Pilkington 30-04-2022 06:35

Re: Prawns

Ok…it is said that ‘gotten’ goes back to the 12th century and is an old Norse word……but still…..not commonly used in the UK.
Much more used in the US.
In the UK ‘got’ is the past tense of ‘get’…..and the past participle of get….is got.

Yep, it applies, but lets face it there are plenty of us uglys to go around and even we have managed to breed a generation of even uglier folk.
When you think about it, anyone that had the idea of creating a master race of blonde, blue eyed children was on a loser, we breed many more and much quicker than they ever could!

Re: Prawns

By the way, if you need proof that there are plenty of uglys, why do so many women prefer doing it doggie style?
Because that way no-one has to wear the brown paper bag!

Any views on "ill-begotten"? :)

Lots of good looking ladies are attracted to less-hansome-men,it all depends on the size of his (wait for it), Bank account.

That Woodnook education has stood you in good stead Marge.

Margaret Pilkington 30-04-2022 09:58

Re: Prawns

Taddy it was not the Woodnook education that did it.
It is what has happened since. Further education is a wonderful thing. I came away from Woodnook with no exam successes….but I made up for it later.
Learning continues until you take your last breath….and I am a curious old bird that likes to know things.
Son…..Ill begotten is acceptable because it is totally different to the lazy ‘gotten’ used by Americans.
Methinks you might have been watching too much Yankee stuff.

Looks are very fleeting.(and not to be relied upon)
Some of the young lads I might have thought were handsome look much less so as they have added years.
But looks might catch the girl, but it is charm, personality, and a sense of humour that will keep her.

Dear me, Less – does the fact you know what most women prefer imply that you are a man of great personal experience or simply a prolific reader? Perhaps best not answer that.

Re: Prawns

The evidence of that, Taddy, can often be seen in the social pages.

I used to work in a factory that had over 300 women and only about 20 men in it, If there is one thing you soon learn as you walk around the production lines it's the fact that when so many women dominate a work space they will discuss many intimate details and they don't care who hears them.

Not too dis-similar from all male work places then Less.
(The evidence for my comment came from having five brothers who were happy to talk about what was said in their workplace….engineering factory, garage workshop….etc).

Just the same though, on the last day before Christmas the male staff at that factory weren't allowed on the factory floor for their own safety, because after the traditional let's all go to the pub and get a few xmas drinks in on returning from 'lunch' most of the women left their morals next to their clocking in cards downstairs and any lone male was easy game for a strip down and being paraded around the factory!
