the pleck

when i was young i used to walk down what my mam called (the pleck)it came out on bull bridge past the australian pub,(thwaites)starting after whalley rd methodists,does anyone know what it means,or where it originated,i have seen the plect house mentioned on another thread,i assume rightly or wrongly that this is probably the same,if so what was it.would be grateful for any info.
