Is it just me or does the site seem slower since the revamp, and particularly slow tonight.

Re: speed

Not slower for me but then I run a local proxy so 90% of the site is served from my own PC.

:) thats Linux for you!

Don't understand a word all I know is that I run on 2.2 Mpbs whih is supposed to be fast but the other night it was like wathing grass grow. I do however understand that whilst my PC may be fast it is only as fast as anyone I am talking to.

Last wednesday, thursday and friday (30,31,1) the accyweb server was hammering out a load of backups. Also, on thursday there was a datacentre outage in the US of a and the adserver for accyweb was unavailable. This really did slow accyweb down to almost a halt as every page stopped loading after the first post to go looking for the adserver, which wasn't there! :( I'll make it so that that can't happen again, when I get time :)

Dial up users will probably notice a slowdown since the re-vamp, as the pages are larger than they used to be.

What makes you think it can't do broadband?

I have had PCs as slow as a Pentium 100 running on a broadband connection. My server was a P2-300 and ran serving the broadband connection out to all my other computers as a wireless access point as well as being a web server, an ftp server and also running remote access stuff so I could log on from work and start stuff downloading etc.

Re: speed

Seems slow to me and always crashes at least once when I'm on the site. Usually about five minutes after logging on then I redo my connection and it runs fine. Definitely slow now though.

Re: speed

Just done a quick check on this page and I found that all the postings load almost immediately but the bottom of the page from the reply text box where it says"options" and "quote message in reply" takes about an extra 7 or 8 seconds, cant say if i ever noticed this before.
Just checked other pages before submitting this and they all do the same, is it because it is doing a search for the similar threads and seeing who the active users are?
Apart from that the speeds seem ok to me

Re: speed

It seems a bit slow for me too but I can't be sure because it changed round about the same time we changed ISP.

Sometimes it's great, really quick, and othe times it seems to stick. I've had a couple of times when it comes up that the connection has timed out.

Re: speed

I have noticed it being a bit slower this past week when loading the pages but thought it was just down to me having new virus protection on my comp!

Re: speed

At weekends the servers perform backups and this slows it down. There is also an issue with internet explorer and the current site design. Switching to firefox solves this. The software is being upgraded very soon and the design will be lightened a lot to speed things up.

Re: speed

Do you use the same server as Neal, i always find his site loads a lot faster than accyweb.

Roy 31-07-2005 08:19

Re: speed

Neal is on one of my servers but not the same as accyweb.

Re: speed

If you want speed then select the default june skin from the selector at the bottom of each page. It is default skin and doesn't have any of the fancy graphics so loads much faster.

Re: speed

I haven't changed anything but it's a lot quicker at the mo.

janet 31-07-2005 17:20

Re: speed
