Janet,
Did you have a brother called Barrie?? I went to school with him (St. Andrews) And lived on Holland St, or that side of Blackburn Road?? If you did...then I know you and I think you would know me if you saw me. |

Re: WHITTAKER OR LIVESEYS
There were Whittakers who lived in Barnes Street, Church - Frank, Annie and ?, none married. There was another brother who had two children, Francis Whittaker and, I think, Sylvia, both went to Sacred Heart School, and then on to what was then St Oswalds, later Holy Family.
Have you tried Friends Reunited? |
Re: WHITTAKER OR LIVESEYS
were Whittakers next door to me in 50s (Dowry St) mum Vera, dad Harry n daughter Lynn who was in same class as me at junior school, we were good friends, all sadly no longer with us. very nice family, they bought the off licence on burnley rd which used to just before the "Boars Head" that would be mid/late 60s i reckon.

Re: WHITTAKER OR LIVESEYS
There is a Livesey Historical Society based in America. I met the founder some 20 years back, when I gave him some ancient Livesey documents, they were on a vist over here and were staying at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel. we used to correspond regularly until sadly he died a few years ago. He made me an honourary member of their society and I still send them things on Livesey's. THey have records on all the Livesey family trees not just in America but in Lancashire as well.

Re: WHITTAKER OR LIVESEYS
There was a Mrs Whittaker ran a corner shop at the top of either Paxton or Buxton St in the 1960's
Strangely enough Ive been thinking about that shop recently. As you walked in the hall way there was a door on the left to the shop. I have been trying to remember if there was apartition or anything to stop you getting inot the home accommodation. Usually in that street the stairs were opposite the front door but I cant remember seeing them. |

Re: WHITTAKER OR LIVESEYS
Yep, I remember the cat too.
However, king (or possibly queen) of Accy cornershop cats was the one owned by Pennock's (corner of Richmond St and Higher Antley St - did fantastic homemade iced lollies). This magnificent beast was huge and at one time was in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest cat in the world. Thread wander?...moi? ;) |

I vaguely remember that cat and the lollies, but most of all I remember that this shop (Top Shop from where I lived) gave free sweetes to children who went the errands there. They would probably get arrested for that now , well they would if there were any corner shops and if shildren were allowed to 'run errands' |
Re: WHITTAKER OR LIVESEYS
There was a family called Livesey who lived on Avenue Parade. Their daughter Jennie was married to Cyril Whittaker, the hairdresser whose shop was at the bottom of Burnley Road. Jennie and Cyril's daughter lived in Kent - her name was Sheila.

Re: WHITTAKER OR LIVESEYS
This is the first time I have seen this thread. It was never going to get anywhere because of lack of information posted buy the starter. The names are so common that some narrowing down needs to be done, and that could have been achieved by supplying more detail - names, addresses, schools, workplaces, years. I suggest that the
thread be re-started. Cyril Whittaker's daughter appeals for information about her dad on the website 'Curious Fox', which is worth a look at. It can be seartched using places or surnames. It is cheap to join but can be used for nowt. There was another Whitaker family living next door to the off-licence near the Boar's Head - Frank & Alan were the sons in the 1950s. A Janice Whittaker lived across the road from them. She married George Plumpton. |
Re: WHITTAKER OR LIVESEYS
