:D The old school was at the top of Chapel St. The new one was built right next to some air raid shelters, which were on the field at the top of Alice Street. Anyone rember those? |

Re: Hippings Methodist Primary School
The old school building was demolished in 1971.
I remember the year precicely because that was the one year when I lived at the bottom end of Lord St (backing the old school site). When demolition began all sorts of vermin left the building. I found I had to cope with rats and cockroaches:eek: |

Well I was born in 1981, that means I joined Hippings in 1985 and finished in 1992. That means Lilly was in YR3 when i joined.

I saw a car this week with the last part of the registration number being BEE . It was a black car and I don't know the make . For me a car is just a machine on four wheels . It was near Mount Carmel . I was curious and wondered could it belong to our Bee . |

Re: Hippings Methodist Primary School
Going back to the Heys fields air raid shelters, I remember them too. They stank. it was something of a rite of passage I recall to go through them from one end to the other in the dark. I seem to remember that one end was all but walled up with only a narrow horizontal gap to squeeze through. The corporation salt dumps were great fun to play in too.
I lived at the top of Alice Street and always bemoaned the destruction of the wonderful football pitches to build a bleedin' school. As one of my former bosses used to say "It's like weeing through somebody's letter box then ringing the bell to ask how far it went" |

Re: Hippings Methodist Primary School
Is Hippings Methodists the same as Hippings Vale Primary school? If so my mum was teaching there in the mid-70's through to part of the 80's -her name was Mrs Chaffer and she taught top class -her friend Mrs Andersen was deputy head....

Re: Hippings Methodist Primary School
There are name variations for this same school, as shown here -
About Hippings::History When I attended the old school at the top of Chapel St it was known locally as Mount Pleasant (adds to the confusion doesn't it? :D) |
Re: Hippings Methodist Primary School
To add further to the confusion , I am almost certain that Hippings Vale School was what is now St Andrews School .

They changed the name when they moved to their new building. Don't know when that was. Presumably in the sixties. Before my time. :D |
