No, but I know someone who did.

:D

The old school was at the top of Chapel St.

The new one was built right next to some air raid shelters, which were on the field at the top of Alice Street.

Anyone rember those?

The old school building was demolished in 1971.
I remember the year precicely because that was the one year when I lived at the bottom end of Lord St (backing the old school site).
When demolition began all sorts of vermin left the building.
I found I had to cope with rats and cockroaches:eek:

Very impressive Bee . Top marks and grades ?

I saw a car this week with the last part of the registration number being BEE . It was a black car and I don't know the make . For me a car is just a machine on four wheels . It was near Mount Carmel . I was curious and wondered could it belong to our Bee .

Going back to the Heys fields air raid shelters, I remember them too. They stank. it was something of a rite of passage I recall to go through them from one end to the other in the dark. I seem to remember that one end was all but walled up with only a narrow horizontal gap to squeeze through. The corporation salt dumps were great fun to play in too.
I lived at the top of Alice Street and always bemoaned the destruction of the wonderful football pitches to build a bleedin' school. As one of my former bosses used to say
"It's like weeing through somebody's letter box then ringing the bell to ask how far it went"

New football pitches are in the process of being made now. The whole of Heys playing field is being fenced off to stop idiots on motorbikes, quads and cars driving on it

Spoke to mum earlier and it was a different school, as hers was C of E. Sorry for the confusion - mind you with all these name changes it's not surprising...

...and prior to being called St. Andrew's, as it is presently, and before it was known as Hippings Vale, it was called St. Andrew's.

Let's hope they're not planning anymore name changes.

Very confusing.

No, I think that's right.

They changed the name when they moved to their new building.

Don't know when that was. Presumably in the sixties.

Before my time.

I can remember going to dances at St Andrews at the bottom of Kay street on Saturday nights in the late 50s early 60s, the stare attraction was the Rockets skiffle group, Gordon Holmes and Jack Groves were two of the members:D

I went to those dances too.
As for The Rockets - I knew them all - Frank Isherwood 'played' the tea chest - you may know him because in recent years he worked some evenings behind the bar at the Stop and Rest.
Jack Groves was my childhood sweetheart.

Forgot about Frank Margaret, he's a good mate of mine, we always had a good drink in the Stop on his night off and on the Stop ride outs. Jack used to pop in Ossy Con on a regular basis on a Friday night, but ain't seen him for lately as I obviously unable to frequent the Con these days
