Iris Preston

Does anyone know the whereabouts of lady by the name of Iris Preston? Iris is an old family friend and will in her late 60 to mid 70s. Any help would be appreciated.

OK, I don’t know Iris’s family so I can’t give any confirmations in that respect, she was a friend of my family, more my father. I last saw Iris back in the eights and want to be able to talk to her again. If this is the same lady she will remember my father Alan, if you could ask for me?

Iris Preston(Wilding)used to live in the flat above me-believe she is still in the Ormerod St area.
Her daughter can still be seen in or around the local pubs on B'burn Rd.
Last I heard Iris was due to have a hip Op.in Burnley.

I see Iris around Accrington occasionally.
She doesn't keep very good health these days.
I don't know if you know it but she lost her husband about 5-6 years ago. If I see her would you like me to pass a message on to her?

Regards
Christine

Sorry Cashy, thanks for enquiring for me and thank you everybody who’s posted. I do have a contact number and I will give Iris a ring as soon as I can without being interrupted by work. If any one does see her before I ring her please feel free to let her know that Malcolm, Alan Douglas’s lad was asking about her. It might be a lesser surprise that way, that’s if she remembers me at all.

I believe Iris is doing ok. Thanks for your information Redneck. I'm afraid I'm not the one you know although it's possible we might be related, I don't really know if he was called Dougy by those who knew him but if it was my father he was Alan Douglas.

I’m posting here now to bring this to a conclusion. Having spent the past couple of evenings talking to this young Lady and us meeting for the first time yesterday (Thursday 29th February 2008) I am please to say that I am proud to have Catherine as my sister. There where others (family members) in the background helping behind the scenes that made this reunion possible, to them I wish to say a really big thank you.

There are other people I have yet to meet; I would like them to know that it will be a privilege for me when it happens. As for the future, I have my Sister and her lovely family and they can only add to the value of my life. There are regrets in that I have lost one member of this family before we had chance to meet each other and that this will always be deeply regretted but I want her to know that she is recognised as my Sister and I pay tribute to her life. Good night and God Bless Sam. The only other regret is that this reunion didn’t happen many years earlier.

I’d also like to thank Roy and Accyweb because it is unlikely that we would have ever met without it.

In respect of Iris, I now have contact details and I will be seeing her as soon as it is possible.

Re: Iris Preston

a little story about iris to finish the thread off- Early 70s the day i got engaged, decided to have a quiet meal to celebrate, so we went into the Chinese Restaraunt that used to be on Church St, around 7-00 cos we knew it would be virtually empty at that time, 2 people were in= Iris n Roy (her fella at that time) we made for the far end, Iris shouts, come n join us cock dont be sat on yer own, so knowing her we did,the waiter comes,we order, 2 mins later a voice bellows what the f*** do you call this you slant eyed get, there were 2 options- crawl under the table or laugh,we chose the latter, as you can imagine the waiters/manager were not best pleased, the performance continued all through the meal, i ended up with hiccups through laughing, unexpected but turned out a hilarious night, if i bump into her when shes out n about again, i reckon i owe her a drink for that.;):D

Iris Preston, that is a lady I remember well from the 70's, I used to take her out a few times and more than once to the Lagos Club in Moss Side Manchester amongs other shady dives I frequented in those far away days.. Very good company and one who could stand up for herself. We had a lot of laughs together but I don't think I saw her again after about 1985.

I must look her up.
Her father was Jack Preston and he did a bit of boxing I think. He was a tough old nut anyway.

Would this be Alan Douglas who had a flat over Abode opposite the Duke of Welly on Abbey St? Also a Denim shop on Blackburn Road near the Viaduct and opposite the Crown.
