Elite snooker club
Just wondering how many of you guys remember the Elite snooker club and the old boy behind the counter. I think his name was Roland. Only had 1 eye. Nice old boy until he got upset then he used to chase you round the tables. I used to knock about with Bob Burnside and Jez Moores.
Jez,s dad used to keep the Australian pub. Frannie Franks used to meet us up there for a game. Before he was in the Dappers. We would then go to the Bridge or the Abbey for a couple of beers then go to the Con club or the Arcs. Mabey have a pint with Jimmy Fielding or Billy Baron, Pat Varley and then go and Watch Willie Hart dance the night away. Those of us who couldnt dance would just walk round and round for hours in the Con, inbetween visiting the bar for a few Gills of mild. I left Accy in 1969 but still have great memories of the times in Accy and the friends I had. Wonder whats happened to them all now. |

Yes mate, the one I am talking about was the one on St James Street below the Derby. Loads of steps to get to the hall. Used to meet the girl friends outside the town hall and used to look out the window to see if they turned up. If the did not turn up we used to make believe we didnt care and carried on playing snooker. Did you know a lad called Tony Boardman, He was at Holy Family. We were mates from being kids in Crown st at the bottom of Willows lane. We went down the pit together at 15 and then he went in the Army in the late 60s.

Re: Elite snooker club
I remember Tony Boardman from my time at the old St Oswald's infant school at the bottom of Willows Lane . He lived just across from the school , and he was a little terror .
He moved to Sacred Heart school when he was seven . I believe he was a different lad there . No problems . I learned he had joined the army from his dad . But nothing since . Oh , and believe it or not , he was an altar server at the Sacred Heart church for a while . |
