ebay are awash with them.. most listed as legal.. I dont think there is anything Illegal about asking for one.. theres an advert on this site selling them thats been there for months.. thats gotta be worse than a wanted advert..if that can stay then i dont see any reason why this cant..

got to admit .dont know enough on subject... I thought just one xbox.. now i hear crystal and another.. 360 or summat? all confusing... Playstation easier.. its 1,2 and then playstation 3 :)

The crystal xbox is the same as the normal one only it clear. the 360 not out yet that will cost near £300 just for the console.

But keep your ears out for me if you know anyone interested.

What is wrong with me is that dodgy software(and yes most of the stuff on the HD will be copyrighted) is doing someone out of their dues. I get paid to write software. If I was to accept your ad as 'no problem' then it would be like my employers turning round and saying they weren't paying me this month because Kippax had copied all my work instead of paying for it.

As for going to the mods, This is Roys site and if Microsoft see pirate material being traded then they can ask for the site to be closed. If you want to explain to all the regular posters on here as to why their site has gone for the sake of someone trading in dodgy stuff then so be it. Someone I know was importing PSPs from Japan and selling them on. He sold 4 and Sony have found out and are trying to get his site closed. He is also facing legal action.

I'm not saying that I have or haven't, that is between me and my conscience( You are welcome to have a shufty for any dodgy software on any of my computers though, GPL rocks!). As for the second point, that is a matter of fact. M$, Sony and the big guns are now getting very hissy about open trading in copyrighted material.

Buying fags/booze abroad isn't breaking the law. This gov signed up for a single market. Effectively buying fags in Brusseld and driving back to accy should be exactly teh same as buying fags in Blackburn and driving back to accy.

Downloading (copyrighted)MP3s from P2P etc is against the law(albeit IIRC its not something the Police will do you for, the indiviual companies need to raise a private prosecution)

OK so the fags were an example of whats legal but you stated doing someone out of there dues.. ie the guy in the corner shop, i'm sur there are a million and one examples of people "being done out of there dues" just because its not in your back yard doesn't mean it doesn't matter. I too have a profession where copyright is broken but hey thats life!!

So I'm a busybody am I? So if I start a thread about breaking into your house and stealing your stuff that would be OK? What other illegal stuff shall we start organising? Fancy a Bank Job? There must be a few quid knocking round the local pubs as well, I wonder if staggers would mind us breaking in to the Stag and turning over his gaff? So stop throwing insults when we are trying to have a sensible discussion about what should and what should not be allowed.

We talk about community and looking out for our neighbours yet here you are looking at ripping someone off. You say I won't lose money. How do you know whether I have shares in Microsoft? By ripping off games you affect the profits of companies. This has an effect on share price which affects any holdings I and others have. Then there are pensions etc. They also rely on share price so you are affecting my financial standing in my old age. Short sighted view of effect is an easy way to justify something. Look at it end to end and its a different picture.

So thank you very much but it is as much my business as anyone elses.

On the issue of copyright theft, consoles specific, the majority of console manufacturers only recieve a small amount of the game profits (licensing to use their format), they make far more in sales of units, they are only under pressure from the software houses to make their consoles more "hack proof"

Back in the nineties EIDOS the makers of tomb raider issued a statement saying they wasnt going to bother with any form of encryption on their latest tomb raider game , reason being why spend tens of thoudands on something that would be cracked within 3 days of release.

I'm confused. OK I admit I know nothing at all about games and haven't a clue what an X box is but when I read the first post I thought somebody was simply wanting to purchase a second hand thingy to play games on, along with the games to play on it.

I've obviously missed something because I don't understand how that can be illegal.

Please don't misunderstand, I'm not arguing that I think it is legal. I would just like somebody to help me out of my ignorance here.

F'rinstance. If I have an old PC with Windows 98 and some other stuff on it and I get a new PC with better windows and better stuff is there a problem with me selling the old PC to somebody else? What is the difference between me still using it in my house and somebody else using it in their house?

I can see a difference between that and me copying software from my PC onto a disc and selling that to somebody else. I can see why entwisi would be dischuffed at that.

P.S. He is perfectly correct that a site can be closed down for encouraging infringement of copyright though. There was a "ProBoards" message board where people were discussing the benefits or otherwise of different P2P and when that was spotted...........

I dont think anyone here wants an all out pirate area where everyones trading stolen or copied stuff... it was a simple request for an xbox with copied games on it.. that in itself isn't illegal As far as I know

Get down off your high horse for a minute please KIPAX. There really wasn't any need for that sort of attitude.

I was simply asking what was different between what you'd asked for and someone for example selling an old PC complete with software (would that be a problem in their view), or indeed Mummiboo's ad for an Xbox she wanted to sell.

I wasn't criticising your ad - I was simply asking if someone could explain to me what there was to object to, which you have now done and for which I thank you. :)

I asked for clarification of something I wasn't clear on and then went on to comment on something which I had personal experience of.

when u buy a M$ operating system, you buy the licence to use it, the 25 digit key is your licence number, if you sell that pc you also exchange the licence ownership, prior to XP this was no problem, but now with xp if you change too much hardware in that machine xp will shut down and you will need to call M$ to unlock it, exchange of the licence is permitted, but if your licence only covers 1 pc it cant legally be used on 2 pc`s, does that help

as for modiying a piece of hardware ie xbox to install another operating system LINUX for example, M$ have found to their cost that you cant monopolise, so modyfying an xbox isnt illegal, playing pirated games on a console however is, but KIPAX didnt say he wanted pirated games he said he wanted a modded xbox, what he wants it for is his buisness.

There is no modified hardware in the PC but it does have software loaded onto it that isn't loaded onto any other PC.

I can't just find a license agreement for windows 98, I only threw one away last week tidying up. Here is a bit out of the Windows xp one
