Not everyone has the time/talent to get out a sewing machine to get an outfit together.

Presume this is another school's enterprise of a day for kid's attending in fancy dress of subject they are studying.

The other week, colleague of mine had to send son from Peel Park in Evacuees outfit .. easy you may think.

After time spent on Internet, looking at pictures, etc., getting some brushed cotton for her to make shirt, borrowing begging jackets, flat caps, short trousers, visiting that shop in Abbey Street, the lad eventually did go to school looking realistic.

They have no right to put pressure /even costs on parents to rise to this event .. made me angry.

P.S. Garinda .. think your Mummy idea was brilliant ... xx

Sounds good to me grego.

Sorry for me rant folks ... just watched the pressure this young working mother went through.

A little off-thread, but, as I have been involved in Dramatics since age zero .. was lucky to have a Mum who sewed endlessly for my brother and myself to keep us looking decent, so she made many of my costumes for me throughout the years. The one stamped on my memory was a dress made out of a parachute (ex army) which was pure white silk, and she edged it with those strings of silver sequins... absolutely gorgeous .. wonder what happened to it ? :(

I would do very simple white straight up and down bag with a gap for arms and one for head. Make the collar out of cardboard and paint it gold & turquoise, cardboard cones round wrists/lower arm also painted gold and turquoise. Headband with another bit of cardboard similarly painted - bit of gold cord with tassles to tie round waist of dress. Hardly any sewing at all. I believe in keeping it simple. :)
