Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
Have you tried Freecycle? Plenty of people give away good furniture they no longer need. Definitely worth a try.

Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
HUFFS in accy , you can get a lot of stuff for just a small donation and they deliver too

Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
check everything they fetch you, half the stuff i got was broke!
|
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
I have a very comfortable chair. It would be fine with a cheap throw over on it. You would need a small van or estate car to collect and we are in Wilpshire Blackburn

Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
You could also try ringing Maundy Relief. They help people on benefits etc I think. Might be worth a try.
|
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
Maundy relief send you to Hufs.. If Hufs dont have what you need then Dorothy may be able to it for get you but you have to try Hufs first.

Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
Ah right sorry I didn't know that.
I think they have just opened a furniture shop on Abbey Street. Not been in it just saw it when drove past the other day. |
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
oh yeah, like a second hand/ charity shop, looked pretty good. Hufs will be cheaper but i wouldnt but electricals from them.
oh, another thing about hufs.... check everything you asked for has been delivered, i had 4 things missing. |
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
I went to huffs once when I wanted a cheap suite, never been back since and wouldn't go again.
|
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
you gotta check that the stuffs ok...... some of the sofas were mouldy and damp cos they kept in that big warehouse thingydo...
my table, vacuum and drawers were broke. my fridge was a freezer... i didnt get either mattress i asked for or the bedroom furniture. |
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
Exactly. When I went the stuff was disgusting and I wouldn't set foot in the place again. I'm far from a snob but I wouldn't have let my dog sleep on the stuff I saw.
Did you ring up and complain? Surely if you paid for the stuff then they should have brought it?? |
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
yeah i did...... they didnt have the stuff i asked for so i ended up with other stuff.... the replacement table fell to pieces a few weeks ago!
|
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
I think its quite unfair if you're complaining about the quality of stuff from HUFS. They are a charity and selling used items for an extremely good price. They cannot control the items that are donated. There are many used furniture stores that operate as a business and make much more profit.
The items that were missing, well yes, that is a problem but if they were replaced, then thats something. I do think credit should go to places like this that do help people, and I know many people that were extremely happy and grateful to HUFS. |
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
im just warning people to check the stuff....its no good if its broken.

personaly i am very happy with my bunkbeds and fridge freezer which cost me around £15-£20 in total including delivery its a charity and they dont owe you a damn thing and there is nothing stopping you from inspecting goods before you agree totake them or even refusing items if they dont come as expected |

Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
I once asked Hufs to take a solid wood refectory table and 2 dining chairs.
They ummed and aahed on whether to take the table, pointing out that it was bigger than most people wanted nowadays. It was a 6 seater as most of them are. They took it - I was giving it away to replace it with a 2 seater for use by me and an occasional guest. Do most people eat meals on trays in front of the telly? |
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
we eat in the living room atm, the drop down parts of my table erm... dropped off lol... all we have now is a coffee table
|
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
On the other hand i would reccommend HUFS 100% from my experience-i moved in my current house with very little and they provided me with 2 carpets for £5,a washer for £20 and a cooker for £20 (plus if they broke they got fixed for nothing-not sure if thats still the case). All were second hand and you could tell but if you literally have NOTHING then its a great place to go.
You do ahve to be on benefits to buy things from there. |
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
i happen to work at HUFS and can assure you this hasnt happened while i have been there we do not take in items that we dont see fit for other people everyone has standards and ours are not that low i happen to have seen a lot of nice stuff come in the last 13 weeks chocolate leather sofas without a mark on them and they go in less than an hour for £60'
if your stuff was junk theres nothing stopping you knocking it back and being refunded but if you come in and see something you want your name is put on that item till delivery date. by the way to the op i have a large 7foot long white sofa with marks on it im currently trying to remove with some vanish if yourinterested please take it as its taking up room, im replaceing it with a 6foot 6 fish tank please pm me if you want it |
Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!

freecycle has been an absolute boon to my son who needed stuff for his flat. I have curtains of various sizes and colours if any one interested and they free !!!!
as for accomodation , try eavesbrook housing association in accrington , they cover a lot of areas and are very helpful. their fone number in the telephone book . |

Re: furniture needed, cheap or free!
As far as I know by law, any electrical applicances they sell MUST be PAT tested before sale.
NO sticker - dont buy it. If it turns out to be unsafe - return it or report them. |
