House for sale - ebay

I've just had a quick look at the ebay site.........there's bidding on a house on Rutland street...£7,400 - which is way, way below the current market rate. Unless it's a scam of some sort.

Most of the houses in that street are now empty and boarded up
it was once called the street of terror in the paper after there was a big fight at the top

Someone on the other side of the street may want to buy it, and then pull it down for a better view. Eh ?

Re: House for sale - ebay

Who in their right mind would bid on a house when they haven't even seen a photograph of it? Those people on eBay have no idea what they are doing! The "winner" will have no end of problems. Aaaw I feel like emailing someone with some photos.

Tealeaf 24-06-2004 10:07

Re: House for sale - ebay

latest bid is £10,200

the owner is on this website he ain't happy

I Still Fink It is fishy

Re: House for sale - ebay

The thing I find odd is that people are willing to bid on a house they haven't even seen a photo of and have no idea of the location/area or condition of the house.

I doubt very much that the house in the photos on here has been valued at £30,000. If it has then mine must be worth a small fortune. But I was wondering if we were talking about the same house at one stage.

I wonder if the eventual winner on eBay could complain the the vendor if the house doesn't value at £30,000?

Re: House for sale - ebay

It's like buying a pair of shoes without trying them on first, you just wouldn't do it. I assume that the sale will go through the correct legal channels, searches etc. If these properties really are earmarked for the bulldozer it should show up in the search (if the solicitors are doing their jobs right)

WillowTheWhisp 24-06-2004 17:36

Re: House for sale - ebay

Oh I've just noticed that the eBay listing has been amended and any references to £30,000 have now been removed.

That could complicate the issue if the reserve had been met and someone who won had been under the impression that the house had been valued at £30,000 and then had nothing in writing to back that up.

I'm learning to be more cautious on eBay both as a seller and a purchaser.

Re: House for sale - ebay

I wonder how you go on if you buy something like this and then the council comes along and slaps a compulsory purchase order on it. I've been told they are doing that with Porter Street.

ShortStuff 25-06-2004 21:41

Re: House for sale - ebay

I think that the searches and surveys are actually only complusory when you are buying with a mortgage - if it's a cash sale it's up to you to make sure it's worth the money you're paying. I think that solicitors are only complusory for the exchanging of deeds - but I might be wrong! (And not for the first time!)

PS - Tealeaf- how much have they bid on you so far?

WillowTheWhisp 25-06-2004 21:51

Re: House for sale - ebay

I was meaning if the council is clearing the houses in the area and compulsory purchases the houses in order to demolish them.

lettie 25-06-2004 22:10

Re: House for sale - ebay

I know that searches and surveys are compulsary with a mortgage, but they are not difficult to arrange or even do yourself if you don't need a mortgage. A search should show if a CPO is planned for the property. Surely anyone with an iota of sense would organise a search, or perhaps not bid for an unseen property in the first place.. :D

I don't know what the current bid is for this house, but I am reliably informed that someone has offered £15.000 for Tealeaf. ;)

simon 25-06-2004 22:16

Re: House for sale - ebay

Is that a full stop Lettie?

Tealeaf is worth more than £15 just

WillowTheWhisp 25-06-2004 22:19

Re: House for sale - ebay

The auction for the house has come to an end and I don't know if he got up to the reserve price or not. If not then the 'winner' won't have to buy it anyway but I can't see the sense in bidding for a property you haven't seen. Even getting an average of house prices in this area would be very misleading as there is such a difference.

Just had to view this wonderful bargain. WOW!!! You would get a suntan whenever the sun shined (is that 6 or 7 days a year in Accie?)

Through the upstairs window from the street you can view the stars or clouds depending on the time of day. If you hear of anyone selling roof tiles on the cheap, please ask them to return them as some poor idiot has bought the house with no roof!

I saw the photographs Busman. Perhaps a lesson to be learned by all eBay bidders - caveat emptor.
