Re: crash course and car wanted

why are you so specific in make model and year of car?

Surely at that sort of budget, condition is everything... make and model should be secondary

not sure about crash courses as its > 20 years since I passed. best bet is to just ring round and ask for what % pass they hit

02hudsond 18-08-2009 19:57

Re: crash course and car wanted

becuase it has to be that model and size as the insurance is a good price and want a cosie body kit

entwisi 18-08-2009 20:21

Re: crash course and car wanted

you do realise that adding a "Cossie" body kit would up your insurance?

I would have thought that with a 'bodykit' as one oof your major concerns that a Saxo or 106 would be cheaper and equally as 'chav-able' :D

Have you asked your insurance how much it will be with a "modded up car" ?

What age are you ?

My son pays over £1400 and thats just for a bog standard KA.

Re: crash course and car wanted

Well......There are currently 705 Ford Escorts on Ebay, 9 of them are 1991 models, NONE of them are 1300 cc's. On Exchange and Mart, there are 76 Escorts, various years up to 1999, on Autotrader there are 15, Escorts that meet your requirements... Of course if you opt for a 3 door, which the Escort Cosworth, to give it it's real name, came in, you will narrow that number down significantly. Don't forget you will need a drain pipe for the exhaust and a huge amount of money to insure. Have you had a quote yet.....I tried a few, well there is not much to do in Morocco at night when you are not working, I take you are 17. I could not get anyone to insure me (pretending I was 17 again). You might need ALL of that compensation just to get it insured.....

Im sorry but if all you can think about is "modding up your car" before you even pass your test sounds to me like you are quite not ready for the road.

Re: crash course and car wanted

£3000.00 for a 1300cc escort, that is worth less than a £1000.00....... are you insane? Still the joy of youth.
If I had £3000.00 given to me, there is no bloody way on gods earth I would give it to a insurance company.

If I were you I would invest in a night school course to learn to spell!!!!!!

Re: crash course and car wanted

it made me smile that the actual passing of the theory and driving test was mentioned extremely briefly in passing and most of the conversation concerned what to drive etc - i remember reading something recently that said it now took an average of 3 tests (all at about £56? a go) to pass - not to mention the cost of the theory - which also seems to require multiple sittings these days judging by the people i know who have taken it - learning to drive is now becoming a very expensive business - some would say a nice little earner for some departments. There arent many people who can spend a couple of hundred or so for a weeks crash course and actually pass it - does anyone know anyone whos actually managed this? this then leads on to your standard £20 an hour and more test fees etc. As for recommending i can certainly recommend Green LIght - who i believe do crash course - http://www.greenlightdrivingschool.com/ - believe me, if they can get me through my test (and they did), then anyone can!

Re: crash course and car wanted

I wish I could afford to learn how to drive. And a car for that matter. Still, a girl can dream can't she.

If you do learn to drive, please respect the road, the other drivers and pedestrians. My biggest fear is car accidents and after a facebook quiz told me I was going to die being knocked over, I am even more anxious about it now.

I'm only joking about the facebook quiz worries, but really, please drive safely. Your first concern should be safety, not a mod kit that is probably going to look stupid anyway.

This made me laugh in the info about their 'residential course'....

'WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T PASS MY TEST?

In the event of you not being successful on your 1st practical test then we would invite you to return for our remedial course.'

blazey 24-08-2009 03:51

Re: crash course and car wanted

Also, after seeing that website I might learn to drive in October when term starts again because I can't complain at £18 an hour if I opt for block booking.

I know I'm going to be absolutely useless though. How many hours would you say you need to drive to get to a good enough stage to pass your test?

It's expensive isn't it! And I know I won't be able to afford a car anyway. Is it like riding a bike, where you never forget how to once you've learnt?

Nice one Blazey ...

With people like this about to be let loose on the road, maybe you guys should have a "Street Racing Law" similar to the one we have in Ontario .... if the coppers clock you at 50 km/hr over the limit, they take your car and your licence ... and when you get your licence back, your insurance rates go thro' the roof. And, on a smug self-satified note, because I have never made an insurance claim, the annual insurance on my Caddy is $512.00:mosher: ... and on my Harley, $632.00:theband:

Nice ... sometimes being responsible is cool ... and it saves us big bucks .... That's a fantastic rate on the bike. I pay more because I made a few modifications, actually quite a few ... I replaced the evo moter (a piece of shlt) with an S&S panhead ... had a great new paint job ... powdered the frame ... put on 80 spoke wheels .... Baker Drive Train six-speed tranny ... Vance & Hines pipes etc. .... oops wandering here. Come to think of it ... it's an absolutely gorgeous day; think I'll take a ride north of 7 and visit some friends in the boonies.:mosher:

Trouble is, at some point you have to get insurance ... the up front is a pain in the ass ... but, if your system is like ours, you will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly it starts to drop if you have a good driving record and don't claim.

Hardly Ablesomes have never really been my thing. i can appreciate the art but not the performance... :D i like the twistys far too much for foot boards!

If i hadn' t been knocked off and broken my spine i'd still be riding Sports bikes, now I can only do sit up bikes so its a big trailee for me i'm afraid but they still get to obscene speeds rather too quickly for most people!
