What is it worth?

Re: Clarinet

Nothing if you can't play the thing.

Re: Clarinet

"very similar to the one above" ?

Aren't most clarinets very similar?

A decent clarinet can be worth a minimum of £150 - £300, but if there are any cracks or faults then it could be worthless.

Is there any damage? What condition are the pads in? What colour is the cord?

Re: Clarinet

How much Cork grease is left in the jar? I have some friends that might be interested but they won't pay much they are all tight ar*es!

Re: Clarinet

A lot depends on what it's made of and the country of origin. There are a lot of cheap imports about. and then on the other hand a Buffet B12 can set you back about £500!
I'm not familiar with this make.

What make is yours Luke and where was it made?

Mine works 'OK' (if you discount who is blowing it!) but it's a very tatty looking old thing and was made in China.

Re: Clarinet

That is avery pertinent question and you as a moderator should know that their is a vast difference tonally in a plastic or a bakelite clarinet. Age does not come into it. Especially mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WillowTheWhisp 10-03-2005 22:45

Re: Clarinet

It could be wooden you know.

Mine is bakelite and for some unknown reason it has a very unpleasant whiff

fireman 10-03-2005 22:50

Re: Clarinet

All bakelite smells sortof acidy mainly when wet. That is how you tell plastic from bakelite.

Re: Clarinet

my music teacher said around £200 or near offer. and no i forgot to ask him what it was made out of and me or my dad cant tell whether its plastic or bakelite

Like i said if u want to come and have a look at im only in great harwood i think thats best idea

fireman 15-03-2005 07:38

Re: Clarinet

no thanks not this time good luck with it

WillowTheWhisp 15-03-2005 08:29

Re: Clarinet

John I think we decided earlier that the way to tell if it's plastic or bakelite is whether or not it whiffs. If it does, it's bakelite.
