arndale center - drivers beware
i have found out today that if you park your car in the arndale center and it is as much as an inch outside of the deignated white lines marked for parking you will be fined
if this is true then lets add it to the list .. only 1 floor has security cameras on the carpark no smoking yet there is an open air cafe where smoking is allowed right in the middle of the arndale ridiculous fining policy when somone is slightly outside the designated parking slot i will agree it is annoying if your car is parked closer to the one next to it but who the hell do these people think they are enfocing fines somthing just stinks about accrington lately it seems as trade has been killed off the only way they can now take our money is to think up fines and increase traffic tickets via increased amount of traffic wardens i found out about the parking fines in the arndale center from a man with a larger car who was repeatedly driving in and out of a parking space making sure he was withing the white lines and he explained that they now fine you if your not parked propperly |
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
It would help if they had decent lighting in there so you can see where you're parking. Half the time you can't even see the flippin white lines!

Re: arndale center - drivers beware
i was done once for not displaying my disk,my own fault i know, but i was in state of distress at the time having just lost a loved one. i was told by the attendant who was actually stood at my car writing out the paper that did not matter you have commited an offence. that is the nearest ive come to smacking someone in the gob.so please make sure you park correctly if thats what the b******* are doing now.

Re: arndale center - drivers beware
You just wait, soon they'll be painting double yellows under your car, with wardens in attendance...
|
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
If the car next to you is parked outside the lines, you have to park outside the lines also to give yourself enough elbow room - you can bet by the time the warden comes around the original car will have left and you would get fined!
|
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
I saw one of the wardens in there today, writing a ticket for either non-display of disc or parking outside the lines (or both). It is annoying when somebody takes up 2 spaces in a car park where spaces are limited. I didn't think Accy had that problem though, as nobody ever shops here anyway, there should be plenty of parking.:D I have to say that it is my pet hate at work if someone takes up 2 spaces. We have trouble enough trying to find a space if we are on late shifts. I think our parking wardens at work have just started fining for this too. Maybe it's a new money spinning idea for councils and big organisations in debt in order to try and recoup their financial losses.

Re: arndale center - drivers beware
The spaces aren't really all that big considering the size of some cars. Ours has very thick doors which means they take up more room when you open them.

Re: arndale center - drivers beware
If someone has parked over the white line then don't park next to him if it means you have to as well. It annoys me when people park at an angle on level 2 because they are that bad parkers they can't get the car straight. I agree with disabled parking spaces to a point. It does make my laugh, in a sort of pee'd off way, when disabled peple park right outside the arndale entrance then go walking around town. Leave the spaces for wheelchair users I say.

Re: arndale center - drivers beware
A friend of mine got fined a few weeks ago for parking over the line, she's appealed against the fine but don't know how she's got on.
|
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
I'm pleased to say that I got myself a disk last week? I didn't realise you needed one until I was stood in front of the sign and notice the rules (I was using the sign to shield me from the b*****y rain so I could do my coat up).
I have to say if you think you have it bad you should come and live up here. You pay for all your parking in town and the b*****ds fine you for fun………:( |
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
Double yellow lines are springing up in all sorts of places in Tunbridge Wells. The biggest employer in the town a few years ago is now no more (bought by an Australian company, who proceeded to asset strip and then left in the lurch), but there are still too many cars and not enough spaces. The car parks charge in the region of £5 per day.
I am glad I don't have to drive to work every day to find a parking space and then pay for it. |
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
I wouldn't ever park on the Arndale. I always park on Aldi......mainly because I am shopping there too. At least on Aldi you can see the parking spaces.......and they are of a decent size........I'm sure the ones in the Arndale are for midget cars.

Re: arndale center - drivers beware
The amount of room they give you to get onto the ramps to the higher levels must have been designed for minis too. Has anyone ever succeeded in parking an mpv in there?

Oh......I didn't go anywhere near it that weekend.......it must have cost Aldi thousands in lost sales.

Re: arndale center - drivers beware
There isn't much space in the Arndale car park, when Ellie was a baby I often took up 2 spaces it was the only way to give myself enough room to get the baby seat in and out, it was either that or park on the top floor but its not good up there and you certainly dont feel safe. I dont do it now and try to make sure I'm within the lines, I've had my car scratched twice now with other drivers misjudging the space, nobody owns up either.
|
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
What I don't understand about the Arndale car park is why one ramp is narrower than the other. My car can't breathe in as it's going up to the next level, so what's that all about?
|
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
At one side there is a footpath which probably accounts for the narrowness. I don't think they allowed for it in the planning. It must be one of the worst multi-story car parks ever built.
|
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
But that's the wider side, even with the footpath! I don't think they planned it at all.

At least it is free parking still. Not many town's still have free parking.
With all the complaining on this thread about the car park I don't know why anyone still uses it. |
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
you could park for free before it was built and a lot more parking spaces were available come to mention it
to be honest accrington didnt need the arndale center all that happened was that buisnesses moved into it leaving empty shops on broad way and in the old arcade leaving plenty of room for cheap shops and charity shops all the arndale has acheived is less parking , killed off broadway and the destruction of one of accringtons established pubs just think back to before the arndale was around we had a thriving town we had a currys dixons granada rentals a gas shop i think we had a norweb shop as well tescos shifters - although a sh1t hole it was a good pub cinema - I mean a good cinema not the crap we have now just seems to me that since the arndale came along accrington has slowly died |
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
i also think our town has gone downhill since the arndale arrived,i know you shouldn't get stuck in the past, but what about(IF ITS NOT BROKE DON'T FIX IT)
|
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
I think the shops that closed (Curry's, Granada TV etc) would have closed anyway and before the Arndale we didn't have a Marks & Spencers. That came with the very first stage of the Arndale way back when the sunken gardens were lost. The Odeon cinema closed down long before that block was redeveloped too.
The car park was supposed to be built with the same number of parking spaces that existed on the old car park which may account for why the spaces are so cramped and the ramps such a tight squeeze. (Save them going up another floor level to make more) The worst thing to happen to Broadway is that hideous block with Wilkinson's in it. |

My mate looked in his window and it had gone. When he checked (explaining to the warden that he had) it had fallen on the floor. It had probably fallen when shutting his door and hadn't noticed. My friend was livid and the smug traffic warden smerked and said ''tough luck, I've wrote it now''. As to say my friend was contemplating taking the smug gits teeth out without pain relief. So please be careful and make sure when you have shut your door that the green disc has stayed in place. I would hate to think this happens to alot of people, I would rather throw my money down the drain rather than pay them b''''''s. |
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
Well this aint such a big problem for me seeing that i can't even get in the Arndale carpark, never mind trying to negotiate the tight ramps on one side ( apperantly it was built wrong so the ramps on one side are bigger than the other). On the point of the width, for those people with kids, its really hard to get your young ones in and out of the car when there is no elbow room, hence the parent and child spaces at the big super markets. When my daughter was younger i used to park on the higher levels just for the empty room, and you could rely on someone parking right next to you when there were loads of spaces grrrrrr.......

marks and spencer was here years before the arndale center was built , i used to go shopping there when i was a kid with my mum you can still see the old rear exits of marks and spencer if you look behind the photo shop as you go into the arndale farmfoods used to be the cloths section of woolworths if anyone remembers that |

Re: arndale center - drivers beware
yes you could walk into woolworths on broadway and come out on union street
woolworths was like an L shape if you like marks and spencers you could enter on broad way and exit with your shopping wherethe arndale main entrance is with burtons there is no way the arndal can accomodate as many cars as there was able to be accomodated befor it was built there were 2 massive carparks and also where the tax office is used to be a carpark as well |

Re: arndale center - drivers beware
yep
in my opinion blocking off broadway did more damage to buisness than good what the council fail to remember is that we are a town and not a city so all these city type things like arndale centers arnt needed ime betting somone got a big cash backhander for allowing it to be built in accy |

Re: arndale center - drivers beware
what i cant understand is why the council keep letting new premmisis be built as there is a struggle to fill the ones we already have
the outdoor market is a joke and an eysore and one of the most smelly parts of accy ever the fish market was fine where it was all out of the way and stinking its own little place out i realy do think that some councilor is letting anyone build where and what the hell they want for a backhander |

I can't agree more chav.........................it's a joke now, then they wonder why they cant get visitors:rolleyes: |
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
the fish market was always seperate in my recollection, and the market was better for that one simple thing.
|
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
I don't think I have been in the new market so I can't comment.
Maybe I will have to visit just to see how stinky it is. |
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
What I originally posted was:
Quote:
We did previously have a Woolworths which just relocated into the Arndale building but M&S was brand new back then and considered quite a coup for the town. As far as the car park is concerned it was a condition of building on the old car park (behind the original bit of Arndale) that an equal number of parking spaces would be provided to make up for those being built upon and that they would continue to remain free of charge. |
Re: arndale center - drivers beware
sure thats correct willow.woolys was were mcdonalds used to be,facing the market front, with the sunken toilets to the side on dutton st,marks came later.
