I was talking to my brother yesturday about seeing a news item about people not being able to remember when St'George's day was,I was taught the simplest way to remember it was 234,anyone else get taught that? Anyone else got easy ways to remember things such as dates events etc?

the one that sticks in my mind is : roy g biv. for the colours of the rainbow

and its always worked for me.

I got taught this to learn my left from right at nursery school,
You write with your right hand and what's left is your left hand.
Works well for most kids,but not me I was left handed and I got well mixed up!!!:D

The easiest way to remember your wife's birthday or your Wedding Anniversary is to forget it once.

So I'm told!

Can't forget Christmas - I've got two kids to remind me! Birthday - no chance!

30 days has September,
April, June and November.
All the rest have 31,
'cept Feb which has 28 and 29 every four years.


Sadly l've forgotten the next one, to work out when it's a leap year. :(

counting your knuckles works for figuring out how many days are in each month......starting with your index finger nuckle count January then for Feb u count inbetween the knuckle and so on.......the knuckle is 31days, inbetween the knuckles is 30days:D

To sort the order of planets from the sun

Mercury, Venus, Earth, mars, jupitor, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto

thats works for me but i always get mars and mercury mixed up!!!!

Here's a method that works for most. Hold your hands out in front of you, with the index finger point upward. Move the thumb so that it is at a 90-degree angle to the index finger. The hand where the two fingers form the letter "L" is your left (unless dyslexia is a problem).

i have heard of tying string round your finger or tying a knot in your hanky to remember things you have to do .i find it easier to write it on my hand,,(i dont always have a hanky )sniff sniff

I learned to play the ukelele (I like George Formby, OK?) and to tune it you sing "My dog has fleas". Don't know why, but it works.

l'm still trying to work out how many days in the month from Slinky's knuckle buster!

Simple? Either l've lost a couple somewhere or May is going to be 16 days long this year. :)

M - Lake Michigan
E - Lake Erie
S- Lake Superior

A - affects (someone who couldn't work out the difference between effect and affect must have written this!)
C - consequences
E - equation (possible solutions)

This is after the mortgage has been discussed, and discussing the protection needs to ensure that the mortgage is covered should anything happen to them, but I guess it works in other industries too

We had a real brain buster in nursing in order to remember the 12 cranial nerves. It went something like this-

On Old Olympus Towering Tops A Very Fat Girl Vamps And Hops......

In other words-

Olfactory
Optic
Oculomotor
Trochlear
Trigeminal
Abducens
Vestibulocochlear
Facial
Glossopharyngeal
Vagus
Accessory
Hypoglossal


It never worked very well for me at the time, and I prayed that we wouldn't get any nervous system anatomy in our finals...:D

When I was doing my Nurse Training we used lots of these things to help us remember......
Characteristics of a living cell = Now I Must Go Right Round England......
N= Nutrition
I= Irritability
G= Growth
R=Respiration
R=Reproduction
E= Expiration.
Signs and symptoms of a Fracture........Pay LSD if U Can
P= pain
L= lengthening
S=shortening/swelling
D=deformity
U=uneveness
C=crepitus
There were others as well, but they escape me now.

Trouble is remembering all this stuff is remembering it twice because not only do you have to learn the saying, but you have to learn what it means. I always got unstuck with this sort of thing.

When doing my apprenticeship in electronics we were taught to remember the resistor code by the rhyme
bad boys rape our young girls but virgins go without-or from the start of each word:

Black, Brown, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, Grey, White.

9 Times Tables:D

Hold both hands out in front, fingers spread
When trying to do 9 times tables
Ie, 5x9
When looking at your hands, start counting from the right(little finger) and on number 5, put the finger/thumb down

Look at the remaining fingers/thumbs
You have 4 on your right hand and 5 on your left hand, the answer is 45:D

Give it a whirl!
Only works for 9's tho

To a printer like me who was taught at college that the wavelength of the visible spectrum from smaller to larger is actually the other way round; therefore Violet to Red

We were taught the ruder version and I do apologise, but it is for reference
