Racism

So Councillor Graham Jones thinks Accyweb is full of right-wing, racist BNP members. I have never voted for, nor do I intend to vote for the BNP, but when one reads articles such as the one below is it any wonder why people do vote for them? I wonder if Councillor Jones would like to comment.
From today's Times:

Full price pain

An arthritis sufferer has been refused discounted treatment because she is not Asian. Jane Woodage, of Honley, applied for six sessions, funded by the National Lottery, at Trinity Hydrotherapy Centre in Huddersfield. But she was told that sessions were available only to members of the Asian community.

Re: Racism

I would of thought that this in itself showed discrimination, after all the law of the land is the same for everyone!

Re: Racism

The problem is the National Lottery Good Causes Fund. Funding is only made by them - irrespective of the project - on the basis that the scheme has inherent provision for, and is openly seen to cater for, the needs of minorities, i.e. ethnic, gay, disabled. That is why grant expenditure for the Bowland Forest fell rescue team was curtailed; quite simply, there were not enough gays, ethnics or disabled breaking their legs or getting lost on the fells.

If the lady in question does not fall into a minority category and the intended scheme is for her use alone, then sorry, she don't get lottery dosh.

The law of the land should be the same for everyone but that IS racist and it's appalling.

Re: Racism

This is called Positive Discrimination, and where such case’s can be justified to the race relations commission? it’s quite legal. What it does do in reality is it feed the ambitions and fears of race motivated groups like the BNP and genuine individuals who do see and feel that they are being discriminated against. In truth this lady is herself in a minority and should qualify, unfortunately she is a minority through an illness/condition and not by the colour of her skin or culture. What will pi** you off is anyone of us who buys a lottery ticket, promotes and actively participates in this form of discrimination.

Re: Racism

Illness and disability doesn't discriminate and neither should the treatment. "Positive discrimination" is nothing more than racism with a fancy name.

I totally agree with you. Now, what are we going to do about it?

Re: Racism

whine a little

complain a little

complain more

get called a racist for complaining and shut up like good little peasant folk

go and buy a lottery ticket

sorry to say this but we are a nation of moaners and we are known for it world wide

look at other countries like spain and france , if the government pi**es the people off they riot and cause distruption and all sorts of other things and get things done

the only time i can recall the british people saying enough is enough was the poll tax riots

ime not saying we should riot every time we think we are been hard done by but a good old trek of a few hundred thousand angry people down to downing street every now and then might make a government think twice about screwing us over

Re: Racism

What can we do? It can't be right and surely we're not in the minority thinking that.......but what can we do?
