Re: Pub ??

you'd think there would be a rule to say pubs in the same locality would not be able to have the same name!!!

vorlon24 12-05-2005 12:47

Re: Pub ??

Maybe one of them is the head office, and the other is just a satellite branch...

Re: Pub ??

do they have diff closing times so that you can have last orders at one then run to next and get last orders again???

Re: Pub ??

It's not the first time a pub has been renamed following a lick of paint. I refuse in principle to dispose of my hard-earned coin in such establishments, for the name change gimmick alone usually indicates a down market move to attract the local riff-raff to whatever the latest drinking fad happens to be

Particularly saddening is the case of the Printer's Arms in Ossy; a lovely mid-georgian pub whose name indicates it's original function has a house of refreshment for the hard-grafting calico printers from the nearby Moscow Mill.

As for the George (Last Orders MkII), you won't be seeing me there either.

God help us all should a Wetherspoons pub ever be licensed to open it's obnoxious doors in Accy.

l used to like popping in The Queen's Head in Chelsea when l was in London.

l always found it very warm and welcoming, and it's quite refined as there is no spitting allowed.

Thet are indeed a chain of pubs, all called Last Orders, think they are up to about 20 now around the North West. They don't do food but the draught beers are very cheap. The same can't be said for spirits and wine though.

staggeringman 12-05-2005 17:55

Re: Pub ??

Re: Pub ??

This "Last Orders" outfit sounds ghastly. What I am surprised at is the change of names. I seem to recall reading a few years ago, at the height of the plastic paddy pub conversations, that legislation would be introduced placing restrictions on pub re-naming. Either that legislation has not happened or the thicko's at HBC are not aware of it.

I am surprised that Ossy Mills never considered taking over the Printers. I would have thought it would have perfectly complimented their existing estate.

Re: Pub ??

I saw them and assumed they were part of a chain. What's wrong with Weatherspoons, Tea? At least they don't allow music, which has to be a good thing in my book - can't stand trying to carry on a conversation with music blasting out. Stick to the Stag, then you can't go wrong.

I couldn't see the sense in renaming the Tanpits. What has "The Plough" got to do with it? It's the Tanpits and it's on Tanpits Road.

Eh? Well, apart from the music bit, just about everything is wrong with Wetherspoons. They are to beer what Macdonalds are to food and I would rather become teetotal than step into one of the soulless black holes they so laughingly call a pub.

We used to have a thread on here on Wetherspoons in Accy; last time I saw it must have been over a year ago.

Cheers Mick....I wonder if they've changed their spelling over the last year?

Re: Pub ??

I Don't believe it!!!!!!!

It appears that the good burghers of Hyndburn are in the process of granting planning permission for the conversion of retail premises on Blackburn Road into a "luxury super pub". This time, the villians are the Barracuda chain, and we're about to get a "Smith and Jones" themed establisment.

Ignore the slick marketing spin of this company. Having previously visited one of their outlets, which I can only describe as a super-sized vomitorium, I can assure you that this place will be worse for Accy than one of the obnoxious Wetherspoons joints. Should this go ahead, it will be a sad day for the town.

Who will join me in getting a petition rolling?
