Children arrested after attack

Two 11 year old girls, a 12 year old girl and a 12 year old boy have been detained on suspicion of attempted murder of a five year old boy in West Yourkshire. Echoes of Jamie Bulger's murder but luckily this little boy is in a stable condition in hospital.

Oh Vorlon you are soooo sceptical it is called 'rehabilation' taking bad little b******s and turning them into lovely law abiding citizens mmmm *cough* with days out, colour TV in their rooms with a playstation thrown in for free just to ease their boredom.

Just been on news another 12 year old boy has been arrested. The little boy has serious neck injuries and it initially looks like they were trying to hang him  poor little sweetheart I hope he makes a full recovery quickly.

I know it has gone on before Thompson and Venables and these kids but it still makes you wonder WHY?????

They'll probably say that they got the idea from Grand Theft Auto, then there'll be an outcry about the evils of computer games, while everyone conveniently forgets that it's an 18 certificate game.

I tell you what though - if something like that happened to my kids and I got my hands on the people that did it, I'd bloody hang them

Me too :( I'm sorry but I wouldn't be able find it in my heart to forgive any child that hurt one of mine and I'm afraid that goes for my own children too if they ever did something so cruel. Yes I would blame myself and know that I had gone sadly wrong with them some were but I would also regret ever bringing the evil little sods into the world in the first place to cause so much distress to the other parent!!

Re: Children arrested after attack

3 more children are to be arrested and questioned

no way could all 8 children be suffereing from the same mental illness if they choose that as a defense

all of these children are above the age of 10 and should be jailed for life and when i say life i mean the mira hindly kind of life scentence not 15 years with 7 off for good behaviour

if this was my child that this happened to i would be screaming for the death penalty to be brought back and yes i would gladly execute any child that dared to try and kill my own

the attack was clearly pre meditated and an act of pure evil

Re: Children arrested after attack

It does seem strange that children who kill/torture other children are allowed to come back into society and are given annonimity at the expense of the tax payer. Mary Bell as an example, besides the evil little bastards who killed Jamie Bulger.

Debbie J 01-06-2005 17:57

Re: Children arrested after attack

Even the most delinquent kids know it's wrong to kill someone if they don't learn it at home they learn it at school. So regardless of films play stations e.t.c there is NO excuse for what they have done. Lock em up and throw away the key.

Even if this poor little chap makes a full physical recovery he will be mentally scarred for the rest of his life. Whatever possesses kids of 10 and 12 years old to gang up on a five year old child is totally beyond anything that I can comprehend. What kind of monsters are we breeding these days? Yes, the little b@stards should go to jail for a very long time, certainly with no chance of getting out for the next 20 years, by which time, hopefully, they can be assessed for their suitability of being returned to the community.

namby pamby sums the state up very nicely,in my youth i knew people that would not set foot on the isle of man-cos they were afraid of getting birched if they misbehaved,on that basis alone nobody will ever convince me that its not a deterrant.also i think most of these so called DO-GOODERS live in a different enviroment to ordinary people-or a different world.

Re: Children arrested after attack

as i understand it and i may be wrong as i couldnt quite hear the tv because my own kids were playing the 5 year old was taken from the front garden

so thats kidnapping as well

whos putting bets on some child psycologist is going to appear in court claiming that they were merely playing a game of hangman

usualy in a group or to put it better a gang of kids there is a leader who has the ideas which the others follow

still these children are old enough to know right from wrong especialy when it involves hurting a 5 year old so even if it is the case that most were just following along they are just as guilty and should be jailed for life and look forward to their 21st birthdays getting the bumps in the showers in prison

yes 21 can you believe criminal scum dont go to adult prison until 21 yet you are an adult legaly at 18

just another way to keep crime numbers down

At what age do you think children understand about about death and murder?
I don't see how you can lock someone up for life for doing something that they could not understand is wrong.

My son is seven. He knows it's wrong to hurt someone never mind kill them & I can't believe he is an exception! As I said earlier every child learns this at school if not at home.

vorlon24 02-06-2005 11:34

Re: Children arrested after attack

At age 10 or 11 of course they know.

I also have a 7 year old son who knows the same as Debbie's.

That's 2 so far

Re: Children arrested after attack

sorry but i cant beleive that people actualy think that all 8 of these kids didnt know wrong from right and that murder was wrong

absolute bullocks

it was an act of pure evil and they should be all locked up away from society

i guess its so shocking that children can do this that people make excuses to justify their actions to avoid facing reality that kids can be evil

kids are taught from age 1 that you dont smak other kids and learn that it is wrong so strangleing someone would definatly register as wrong in any childs mind especialy over 10 years of age

Tinkerbelle 02-06-2005 12:32

Re: Children arrested after attack

The rebuttable presumption that a child aged 10 or over is incapable of committing an offence was abolished by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, section 34, before this legislation the prosecution was required to prove, according to criminal standards of proof, that a defendant between the ages of 10 and 14 knew when doing the act that it was wrong, as distinct from an act of mere naughtiness or childish mischeif. A child aged 10 or above is now treated the same way as an adult for the purposes of criminal liability, it may seem harsh when some children develop quicker than other children BUT at 11 and 12 years of age these kids must have had enough upstairs to know that trying to strangle a little boy is wrong in the eyes of the law and everyone else!!

Margaret Pilkington 02-06-2005 13:02

Re: Children arrested after attack

These kids were calculating enough to remove the five year old from the relative safety of his front garden.......so in my mind this proves malice aforethought.
Of course children of 11 and 12 know the difference between right and wrong.
Have any of you seen the film 'Lord of the Flies'....... the children portrayed in that film reverted to animal type instincts.

I feel very sorry for the parents of the accused children. They must be asking themselves where they went wrong.

I am sure that some children ARE affected by violent computer games. Isn't that why the makers/distributors put age categories on these games.

it said this morning that they had to let the 12 year old girl go ,because her lawyer thought she had been in custody long enough ...

i wonder if he would feel the same if it had been a child of his:(

evil kids have more rights than evil adults .............

chav1 02-06-2005 15:01

Re: Children arrested after attack

have they blamed a computer game yet...?

if so blame the parents that buy them for their kids

hundreds of adults in accy alone buy 18 rated games for their children and dont care less about the content even when warned by the staff selling them the game

game shops cant stop parents buying violent games all they can do is refuse children

if a parent buys an 18 rated game for a child then they should face the same fines as what a shop owner would if they sold 18 rated games to a child

anyway in todays world parents buy violent games for their kids and allow them to drink booze on street corners as long as it keeps them quiet so is it realy any wonder there are so many little sh1ts mennacing our society

Just read on teletext that the girl as been re-arrested. Think it's disgusting and that they should all be tried with attempted murder (at least) and kidnapping. Of course they knew what they were doing, probably pre-planned. Makes my blood boil, so it does.

one of the areas of prosection could gbh with intent which is different from gbh as it is an act of violence that was pre-planned and sustaned whereas just gbh is classed as a spur of the moment act and was not sustained for a long period of time, i feel that these children should be tried in the category of gbh with intent, because they took the child from the garden and it shows that there was a premeditated plan made to inflict harm

Defence will argue that there was no intention to harm the child when they took him from the garden.

Not enough 'true' facts about the case to be able to apply the law, there's only what is being released by the press to go on but putting a ligature around his neck, that will take some convincing by the defence to a jury that the kids couldn't forsee any harm coming to the boy .

Steph 03-06-2005 15:46

That's the easy part for the defence, they could say they were 'intending' to play with him or take him for a walk. It's for the prosecution to prove that they did have deviant intention not the defence to prove that there wasn't.

Children do play together, even a parent looking out their back window and seeing a group of children talking to their 5 year old child wouldn't think anything of it

Neil...I was 7 years old when my Gran died. I can remember thinking that I would never see her again......and that she would never ever help me to bake again........so for me it would be 7 years old.

Re: Children arrested after attack

Another thing.......as a 12year old I used to play with younger kids.....house and stuff like that......but I would always go and ask the childs parent if we were going off anywhere......it was drummed into me. If I was going anywhere out of sight I had to tell an adult where I was going and who I was going with.

We used to playin Priestley Clough......we made swings and dens. The younger kids always wanted to come......but they had to ask their parents first.

lettie 04-06-2005 09:34

Re: Children arrested after attack

Children are often very aware of the meaning of death from a very young age. They also accept death as part of life and tend not to be too upset about it when young. It is only as they grow to adulthood that death becomes upsetting.

I believe that these kids knew exactly what they were doing and that they do know the difference between right and wrong. There was probably a ringleader who the rest of the kids followed even though they knew it was wrong. I remember a little girl who lived around the corner from us when I was about 12. Whenever we went to the park and the little girl wanted to come with us, we had to ask her parents.

Anyone who can do such a sick thing never mind the age should be punished in a way so that they would never be in a position to do it again!! My view is that they should be locked in a Detention Centre Indefinatley or until someone can prove that this kind of thing wont happen again!

No because the doo-gooders live in ivory towers away from the real world where things like this don't happen!! It's so incomprehesible to them that they will be unable to blame the evil little swynes that did it, and blame it on something else.
