Perhaps we are not as British as we think...

An interesting little questionaire here. It shocked me to discover I only scored eleven, still that qualifies me for a seat in Parliament, apparently?

Lets see how some of the rest of our members manage.

Yippie, I can have a seat on the district council.

I got 10 correct too! Not sure whether to be chuffed or offended!

I got 12.

I got the question right, but I didn't realise that there was a minimum time you had to be married to get divorced.

My mother got an annulment after 9 months married

It certainly is a tricky one, maybe if we had read the handbook......

I dispute some of those answers! The one about Father Christmas is actually WRONG. The Victorians gave us Father Christmas, the Americans gave us Santa Claus. Father Christmas was originally dressed in greens and browns and a much more pagan looking character whereas the jolly red clad figure we are familiar with today is more like the US Santa. It's a very badly put question and a totally incorrect answer.

I also agree with Lettie about PG. You ask most Brits what PG is and they'll say "PG tips" not everyone has to consider parental guidance in a cinema if they either don't go or don't have children.

I also would have thought it important to know if the solicitor you engage has a potential conflict of interests and as for the introduction of the number 112, to be British why do you have to know the number that was introduced for the sake of foreigners?

How many do you need to get right to be British? Looks like I'm bound for Parliament too.

Very true Willow, The American Red and White Santa Claus is a product of the Coca Cola Corporation I believe. Maybe the Questions where posed by one of our American Friends employed by our constitutional Government to tell us what it takes to make one British. I love the old Pagan Farther Christmas. And I will again this year attempt to replace all trace of the red and white version with a more British/pagan/ Celtic one.

One point, actually Willow I think it should have been old Saint Nick from Lapland? The Victorians under the guidance of the German Chappy “Albert” introduced the Christmas tree from his Homeland; I believe it is of a Pagan Norse tradition. And was it the Victorians who started Christmas cards?
