I had a tame hedgehog once. I took to feeding it chicken and milk in the garden, and it reckoned it was on to a good thing, and nipped into the house. I put it out in the garden. It came back into the house. I put it at the bottom of the garden (long garden). It was waiting on the doorstep next time I opened the back door. My vet's advice was to de-flea it and keep it - so I did. Only problem was, we had a very old telly, and it used to climb into the back and curl up round the valves where it was warm. Had to remove valves more often than not to get hedgehog out. It was very affectionate, and would rub its nose against your feet. Loved it dearly, and wept buckets when it died of old age.

Well, Lettie, it involves a polythene bag and A LOT of flea powder. Place hedgehog's body inside polythene bag, leaving eyes and nose outside (not difficult because nose is pointed). Insert flea powder spray into bag UNDER hedgehog, spray like bu****y. Repeat process with flea powder spray OVER hedgehog. Holding hedgehog firmly, shake gently. Remove hedgehog from bag, and puff flea powder UNDER spines. Repeat until you stop getting bitten - but don't forget to de-flea the cats as well!

P.S. I meant bitten by the fleas, not the hedgehog!

13, DO HEDGEHOGS HAVE FLEAS?

Yes, they inherit them from their mothers in the nest but hedgehog fleas are very different to those sometimes found on dogs or cats. Hedgehog fleas only live on hedgehogs. They like the cool open environment of the coarse and widely spaced spines where it can run fast. If it finds itself in the dense, warm coat of a dog or cat, it immediately knows it's in the wrong place and drops off to wait for another hedgehog. The same goes for hedgehog fleas that get onto humans, they do not stay long before leaving to find a proper host. If they are a nuisance, you should lightly dust with Johnsons RID-MITE or similar powder suitable for use on cage birds.
DO NOT spray or treat with anything intended for flea control on domestic pets, IT WILL KILL THE HEDGEHOG.
HOW TO DE-FLEA A HEDGEHOG!
first of all find the biggest fattest hedgehog you can then
1.wrap it up in clay
2.get a nice hot fire going
3.put the big ball in the middle
4.wait until clay is set then remove from fire
5.to open think its a coconut and smash on floor
6.peel back clay and the skin and spikes come off together
7.you then have a ready to eat hedgehog with no fleas!!!!!!!
