Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

On our way home from Blackpool this afternoon via the M6 we had a bit of a surprise. In the lane next to us there was a chappie driving a HGV at approximately 60mph in quite heavy traffic with one leg dangling out of the window of his cab.

Ok, so it was a bit warm, but what would have happened if he had to stop suddenly?

It was only last night that we got stuck in a five mile tailback of traffic caused by an accident at more or less the same spot.

Re: Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

Are you sure it was his leg?

Acrylic-bob 28-06-2005 17:47

Re: Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

Quite sure. It had a foot on the end of it, I have two just like it.

Re: Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

It might have been a prosthetic leg, he might have just spilt a drink on it and been drying it out of the window ;) (she says with tongue firmly in cheek)

Re: Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

What with mobile phones, people picking their noses, general disregard for the highway code and now legs dangling out of windows. I hardly dare to get into the car...:D

Re: Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

Are we sure it was his leg? Could it perhaps have been someone else's leg? That could imply an even more dangerous situation.

Or maybe his nickname is Clever Dick...

Re: Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

Did he have a "how's my driving?" sign on the vehicle; I would have rung the number there and then and maybe even photographed the offending appendage!

Re: Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

Who was the appendage offending?

So, you would have lost concentration about your own driving whilst you fiddled around with your phone/camera to ensure that the offending idiot didn't get away with it?

In the mean time who would have to do something similar, just to catch a picture of you being as guilty as the first driver?

Re: Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

wonder how he would explain it on a speed trap camera

vorlon24 28-06-2005 19:50

Re: Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

If he's not speeding, nothing

 maybe he was from the h.g.v gymnasts society and was warming up prior to a competition over thelwall viaduct.
on a serious note where were the police i bet if you came down the m6 at 120 mph they would soon find you:s_whizz: :camera8:

I see some horrendeous sights on the motorways. Ladies doing their makeup, Blokes having a shave, reading newspapers, etc. Best one ever was a traffic cop in a range rover TEXTING!

I don't know about you lot but I only ever brake with one foot anyway. As far as you picking your nose Lettie while driving, I can't find any reference to it in the Highway Code.

Re: Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

as i am an hgv driver i have seen a good few sights in my time, but the worst distration is the woman. imean how are you supposed to keep your mind on the road when you get women with mini skirts on .or even giving you a flash as they go by. used to be better before they put limiters on the trucks you had a good chance of catching them for an other look

Nope, I use my right hand and my right foot together.

vorlon24 01-07-2005 08:26

Re: Is it any wonder that there are accidents?

I tend to use my right hand most of the time, but both for heavy braking.

When I am waiting at traffic lights my foot is on the brake and my other one is on the road.
