War Of The Worlds!!!!

WoooooooooooooooooooooooW!!!!!

Me and Tinks have just been to the cinema to watch War of the worlds. FANTASTIC film.
Usually if there is a load of hype about a film I usually don't like it.......BUT this time I was pleasantly suprised.
The film was good, the sound was good, the chairs were comfortable and the company wasn't bad either:p .
I highly recommend it to people.........................wow!!

I've gotta agree with you slinky, I took the kids last thursday on preview day and thought it was fab. But if I had to make any criticism it would be I thought it finished too suddenly and I would like to have seen a bit more of the aftermath and how his relationship with his kids changed after!

I love the original Jeff Wayne sound track “The War of the Worlds.” I keep seeing a CD version in Sainsbury’s. I’m tempted to get it but then I am not sure how it all goes now, it’s been that long since I’ve heard it, mid 80s at least. Thanks for the run down on the Film. I will go and see it now people think it’s a good one.

I like that too Doug, our Dad had the War Of The World CD, it wasn't in the film though which was a disapointment :(

I love the suggestion that your dad had the CD? That must make me older than the original film…..lol. Mine was on a luscious black vinyl Double Sleeve LP. I'm sorry to hear that it was left out of the films sound track.......that’s disappointing.

The soundtrack to the new film is now available;and the original Jeff Wayne version has been remastered and repackaged but it's still basically the same thing that you had on vinyl Doug!

My daughter bought the CD version for her dad on fathers day. Its just like the original only better quality sound.... I hadn't listened to it in years but it all came flooding back as if it was yesterday. You wouldnt be disapointed if you bought the new version :)

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

Cheers I'll go and see if I can get it tonight, bl**dy hell this is going to bring some memories back.......They use to play the opening track as a warm up in the clubs. I was a teenager back then, my god.

Seriously them damn cameras are a pain in the butt, people only slow down for them then speed back up when they've passed them, or so I've been told, because I would never speed ;) it's naughty!

If it was rindy flashing you wouldn't see anything at any speed, so I'm told :)

harwood red 09-07-2005 02:00

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

you could be lucky and be just under the speed they fine at, plus you could if you are fined and ask for a copy of the callibration of the camera and if they can't provide it then you should appeal successfully that the camera may not be callibrated correctly! Just a little tip for you

Doug 09-07-2005 02:04

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

I doubt it Harwood, A little over 35 would have been around 39 mph but no faster. If they got me it’s deserved.

Ok, just finished listening to Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds. I last heard it in 1982 and I remembered it all of it like it was yesterday, brilliant. I think I’ll go and see the film over the weekend. Cheers folks.

If it flashed you were over the limit, they still flash when they have no film in so just hope this was the case.
FYI camera's in a 30 zone are set at capturing speeds above 35mph, worked out at speed limit +2mph +10% of speed limit
46 in a 40 zone
57 in a 50 zone
68 in a 60 zone
79 in a 70 zone

Doug 09-07-2005 12:22

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

Thanks for that KSH, I was flashed in Preston last year and that had no film/camera in it. I don’t mind been done for it I was over the limit. It was the surprise of the flash?

harwood red 09-07-2005 12:55

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

anyone think that the flash could be dangerous and distracting???

chav1 09-07-2005 16:52

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

i think the cameras them selves are dangerous because people see them and slam the brakes on to avoid the fine so the poor ****** behind goes smack into the back of them ( yes i kow they shouldnt be speeding anyway but almost everyone does )

i agree with speed cameras but what i diagree with is where they are located they should only be in residential areas and outside schools etc

Sounds good is it ok for kids aged 9.

harwood red 11-07-2005 11:21

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

there is no blood and gore it's more tense than scary, I suppose it would depend on the 9 year old

I have the CD also Doug, it really is tremedous and the naration by Richard Burton (what a fabulous speaking voice) is pretty true to the original book. Of course, I'm sure the Tom Cruise film is good, but how they have the cheek to call this, or the earlier version with Gene Barry "War of the Worlds" is beyond me, as neither bear any real relation to the book. For one thing, the original story is set in England not America.

"........and slowly, but surely, they drew their plans against us!" 'Da-Da-Da' - riviting stuff!

chav1 11-07-2005 12:07

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

the film was goodish but i felt let down a little

there were more product placements than action scenes but thets typical of speilberg films

a 9 year old with a vivid imagination may well not sleep too well after watching this as although there were no realy gorey scenes it did show the aliens shredding human bodies and spraying them like fertilizer and people getting vaporized as they ran away screaming

the certification is a 12a i think so its upto each parent i suppose as to how they think their kids will handle it

fireman 11-07-2005 12:08

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

cheers Chav i will bear that in mind.........

WillowTheWhisp 11-07-2005 13:23

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

I was quite disappointed in it. The film I mean.

There were a lot of bits just too far fetched to accept like the boot behind the mirror bit and I was almost amused by the thingy looking at itself as if it was just going to say "Who's a pretty boy then?"

How come Tom Cruise was the only person who thought of replacing the solenoid in the vehicles?

Why were they "running away" towards the tripods when his son went off with the army?

How come those army trucks all came back on fire and people got vapourised but the lad ended up at Grandma's house?

Wasn't one of the scenes where they got sucked up inside a tripod a direct "lift" from Stargate SG1?

Boy those soldiers were strong to hold back all those surging crowds at the ferry.

Wasn't it odd how he just happened to bump onto an old friend in such a vast crowd and then she didn't make it onto the ferry?

OK as you can probably guess I am a great fan of the book and this was nothing like the book.

Incidentally, I'm female and I'm not afraid of spiders unles they are very large and deadly poisonous.

no in SG1 they use rings that beam people upto space ships :D

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

It would have been nice in opinion to have the film follow the original book and at least paid some tribute to the Jeff Wayne sound track. I haven’t seen it yet but I will do this week.

I meant that in one of the episodes I'm sure one of the main characters was sucked up inside an alien thingy in very much the same way and came out again covered in gunge having planted some kind of destructive device. I remember him saying to one of the others not to say a word about where he'd just been (i.e. up it's bum)

chav1 11-07-2005 15:01

Re: War Of The Worlds!!!!

there was a film called EVOLUTION with the guy out of the x-files where they find a new life form and it ends up growing to a huge size

they use a fire truck and climb into the creatures bum and plant an explosive device and the guy comes out covered in gunk
