I just wanted to share this with you

Yesterday I attended the "Leaver's Assembly" at Springhill Primary School.

The children of Year 6, those who would be leaving this summer, stood shoulder to shoulder, heads held high, boys and girls, brown and white faces, and proudly sang this song.

We are the young, the children of the world.
We hold tomorrow in our hands.
We are the young, the promise of a brighter day.
The future waits at our command.
Teach us well
Teach us how to care
Give us love, a love that we can share
And we'll walk hand in hand in the light of the rising sun.
We are the young.

We are the young and so we look to you
To show us how the world should be.
We are the young, we trust in your experience
To help us shape our destiny.
Teach us well
Teach us how to care
Give us love, a love that we can share
And we'll walk hand in hand in the light of the rising sun.
We are the young.

That day is dawning when we will be grown.
We will inherit the world for our own

We are the young, the children of the world.
We hold tomorrow in our hands.
We are the young, the promise of a brighter day.
The future waits at our command.
Teach us well
Teach us how to care
Give us love, a love that we can share
And we'll walk hand in hand in the light of the rising sun.
We are the young.

I was fishing in my bag for a tissue before they'd finished and others were dabbing at their eyes or finding a lump in their throats.

The children of today are our hoe for tomorrow. I only hope that we can teach them well and teach them to walk hand in hand.

I used to be a part of the Lancashire Youth Choir and we used to sing that song. Its a very meaningful song isn't it

The sentiments are very moving, l too would have been blubbing l'm not afraid to say.

Totally off track l know sorry, but in the film version of Caberet a similar song has the same affect. 'Tomorrow Belongs To Me' sang with increasing gusto by a boy outside a cafe in Germany, ends showing the children that join him are wearing Hitler Youth uniforms. A very poigniant reminder were hatred can lead.

It's brought tears to my eyes just reading it. To think that todays kids are tomorrows adults is not only a big responsibility its quite scary.

We do not receive the world from our parents, We borrow it from our children!

Good job you weren't there or we'd have been setting each other off and bawling our eyes out.
:)

Not really off track. I can see why you were reminded of this. It's hard to put into words how I feel about how children can be lead - just hope that most of them go the right way.
