‘Chav capital of Britain’

What is going on Accy is the ‘Chav capital of Britain' !! (Accy Observer 05/08/05) Since when and why should we have a label like that when places I have been have more chav's and chavettes than we "alledgedly" have, Glasgow for instance. Does this mean that the London is the "scroungers" capital Birmingham is the ethnic and cultural capital and Coatbridge is the Buckfast alcoholics capital of the UK? This is an unjust accusation as the writer must have visited at the start of the school hols. As for the supposed amount of crime then we are no diferent from other towns. Attacking Huncoat was below the belt considering the amount of new housing being built, private of course dispite the "alledged" state of the Within Grove area (councils doing not ours). Accy has its issues but WHAT GIVES SOME STUCK UP ARROGENT BUTTWIPER THE RIGHT TO IN THE WORDS OF THE YOUTH "DIS US" If I was to write like that about a town say Bacup there would be hell to pay! Come on lets stick up for our little town even if it has slight inperfections. Boy am I angry!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: ‘Chav capital of Britain’

Lazy journalism!

Accrington is not called the chav capital of England on the site, but people have posted on it and mentioned Accrington and Oswaldtwistle, as well as every other town in the UK.

We talked about this site and the origins of the term chav months ago. Do we have another Observer reader?

What Accrington Web did months ago, John Fahey filled most of a page with now.

At least it meant we didn't get another photo special of teens at their school dance.

Thank heavens for that its not a label any town would like.

Re: ‘Chav capital of Britain’

Check out chavtowns.co.uk - type in the town name and hey presto.

It has Tunbridge Wells listed on there. I used to live in Hailsham (try that one too - it is hilarious!).

Be warned though - there is no censorship of words on that site...

Ohhh I just think Accy is an easy target ......... one of the lads mags Loaded or Maxim once printed that you were guarenteed to pull at the end of the night in Accy because all Accy lasses were easy  I would like to have met that reprter down Accy on a Saturday night I would have given him such a big wedgy and left his Y fronts strapped to his forehead :D !!

Accy gets quite a few mentions on Sky One too, besides Coley being on the bad tempered footy managers documentary, which was hysterical!!

On an up note Ossy was recently voted the 2nd or 3rd most fashionable place to live nationally ............. SHUT IT RINDY ......... You'll never be able to get out the door now will ya ;) !!!

Exactly, it's a national phenomenon.

To headline it on the front page and then take up 80% of page five with it is just poor journalism, and not even a new story or angle.

Strange that???

I move back to Ossy from London with my fancy window boxes etc., and it's voted the second most fashoinable place to live. Coincidence? I think not.

Even Acrylic-Bob is threatening to move here, so next year we may make it to number one!!!

We did that one a while ago. We've got a section somewhere on all the people Accy can be proud of and then we tried to come up with things in Accrington today that make it a good palce to live.

If I can find the thread I' ll post the link. Mind you, I lost karma points for posting about the free parking being an assett. :D

After many hours of brainin nunbing thinking the only answer to chav 1's question
"has accrington got anything left that HBC hasnt messed up....?" is how much money they can screw out of the good people of the town to satisfy their own pocket lining antics (sorry what I was thinking cannot be posted way to hard core).

Re: ‘Chav capital of Britain’

I know this may sound strange to some, but, Accrington was one of the first places in the Uk for the settlement of asian imigrants brought in to work in our cotton mills. I suppose bearing in mind the relatively low level of racial incidents in the town we could make a rather large claim to fame as being one of the most and earliest multi cultural towns in the north west. We do have some very good asian restaurants and you can buy any asian food ingredient you like on blackburn road. We also have the Arkwright history in Oswaldtwistle Huncoat is mentioned in the Domesday book. AND our local, OAKHILL park won one of the countries top awards for it's beautiful displays, and if you have not seen them, then please make an effort to do so, your chest will rise with pride, the park is amazing. All this in spight of PB. It just shows that he must have no control over things after all, or none of this could have happenned. I know I have been guilty of criticism in the past but when outsiders start on my town I get annoyed.

SPUGGIE J 06-08-2005 17:00

Re: ‘Chav capital of Britain’

The village of Huncoat is mentioned yet the include the area of Within Grove which was outside the village boundry. We have plenty to be proud of yet HBC does nowt to promote it they just ignore, dimiss and forget about this and anything else that aint in their "interests". If we are to have a town to be proud of then we need to put a size thirteen up their collective asses (caint miss they are a bunt of asses).

Re: ‘Chav capital of Britain’

You should be happy when karma is taken off... Its a sure fire way of increasing your karma..

I shall explain :)

What you do is.... slag your own town off or somehting like that and quite rightly have karma removed... You then cry like a baby about it and at the same time tell the world you dont care about karma ... then all the accyweb sheep rally round and give you karma back to stop you crying....

I am forever taking karma off people.. I never leave my name and its always for people moaning and slagging off accy or hyndburn..... The initial reaction is fun to watch and more than half the reason I do it... Its just ... funny to watch :)

But the response is always the same.. your karma then goes up even higher wiht so many people rushing to be nice to the poor hurt souls.... So then I dont feel so bad as I am directly responsible for increasing your karam and I had fun and made a point.

If only I could spread more bad karma.. because I honestly havent got enough of it to keep up wiht the whinging moaning accy slaggers on this messageboard

What a buetifull day everyone (even if i cant spell it)...... I will be the chap snapping at the mela today...bald head, beer belly, glasses very big smile.. thats me always . I am one of the least anonymous poeple on here...... be sure to tap me on the shoulder and thank me for taking your karma everyone and ultimatly increasing it for you...... not that you derserve it you misserbale load of moaning old washer women.

hehehe...... bhaaaaaa bhaaaaaaaa :)

mez 07-08-2005 09:59

Re: ‘Chav capital of Britain’

i only GIVE karma to the posts i think deserve it, kipax, but, sometimes i feel like taking karma off people, only done that once, it was deserved, i thought that this messegeboard or forum, was for, to express OUR opinions, whether a moan or a praise.

KIPAX 07-08-2005 10:11

Re: ‘Chav capital of Britain’

So are you saying Roy has got it wrong and that he shouldnt have introduced the bad karma system? I am not the only one who uses it.. It is there for a reason you know and not leaving your name is there for a reason as well..

If you read my message properly you will see that I enjoy leaving anon bad karma and that just about 100% of the time it results in increased karma anyway...

Yes it is for your opinions and if thats to moan then great.. I like a good old moan myself now and then :) BUT every day constantly slagging off accy and everything in it is beyond moaning...

This is a messageboard.. It isn't real life and bad karma doesn't actually hurt anyone.. I doubt the emergency wards are filled with people suffering fram bad karma attacks ....I did say doubt :) Dont take it so seriously... you know I am a cuddly old thing in real life mez :)

If you all didnt moan about accy so much I wouldnt do it........ hmm or would I ? :)

mez 07-08-2005 10:32

Re: ‘Chav capital of Britain’

yes i agree with what you are saying , but it is only fun after all is the karma, but the way some people create about it is quite laughable, so serious, i have been going through the archives of late, being bored (oops im in for it now ) with what is being posted these past few months, & i must say what a difference there is then to what its like now, yes we did have serious posts then but the attitudes were different, & accrington is not the only chav town around!!!!!

Well I dont mind losing karma in a good cause, beside everybody should complain if their home town is mislabeled or slated. Too many bods not from Accy label it as it seems to be an easy target. So if loosing karma is the sentence for my crime of caring then lets lock and load and get it over with!!!!!!!!!!!!

KIPAX 07-08-2005 12:00

Re: ‘Chav capital of Britain’

spuggie either your being argumentative or you just dont follow the simple concept..

There is no problem with moaning about accy... I can do it..as stated above where its dead easy for you to read.. I like a good moan.. everyone does .. its human nature... No one is suggesting you dont moan.. no one is suggesting no one should moan.... apart from get my crayons out and draw you a picture I can be much more clear can I

My moan (there is no irony if you read on) is that every day on accyweb someone is moaning about accrington or parts of ... usualy the same people... .EVERY SINGLE DAY .. I even tried organising a dont moan about accy day and they couldnt manage it.. one day out of the last few years and they couldnt do it...

moaning is good for the soul... constant moaning everyday about the town you live in is somehting different... thats it....

let us know when the penny drops :)

oh and cheer up.. the sun is shining at last... summer is paying us a visit... :)

Ok, Spuggie-u-like asked what makes this area good.

Well for me it's the people.

I've spent half my life in cities, and it's not bias because it's my home patch, but the people here are unique.

They have a warmth, and a cracking, dry sense of humour l've never seen anywhere else.

They are also very helpful, even if you don't need it. Any dithering person on the edge of a pavement beware! You may find yourself escorted across the road. Usually acompanied with a plotted history of their day. Fab.

Fair enough, Accy has its fair share of chavs but so do most other towns of Accy's size. Yes we have a council who don't know their backsides from their elbows, but plenty of other places in the world have far worse than us. At least HBC provide us with some entertainment......

The thing I like about Accy is that we have some beautiful countryside around here. We are in the perfect location to visit the Lake District, the seaside and cities such as Manchester, Liverpool and Preston. None of our North West attractions are very far from Accy which means that we can visit them and still come home at the end of the day. I'd rather live in Accy than Blackpool...
