Irony or good advertising

A couple of years ago most of you will remember the Nat west ran an ad about my bank is now a trendy wine bar. Well, the first ever nat west branch was in london just over London Bridge. Guess what, its now a trendy wine bar :)

No banks.:(

No bank manager.:)

Sometimes progress has it's advantages.

Nope, just a faceless computer to send you a letter telling you how poor you are :)

When I started at Barclays I worked on the ATM team developing the softwere you see running on Barclays ATMs today. One of the things we 'played' with was having the ATM play a sound file of a man laughing when you tried to withdraw money if you were overdrawn. Unfortunately the bosses weren't impressed.(Oh and the PCs in the real ATMs don't have soundcards :) )

There used to be 2 Natwests in North Street in Brighton - that goes back to the old days before they merged (National Provincial Bank and Westminster Bank) in 1968.

They were both still there when I lived in Brighton back in the early 90s, but one of them closed down, and that is now a trendy wine bar as well!

You can't really blame the banks.

Supply and demand dictates what is financally viable. With the rise in telephone and internet banking, it has seen footfall in the actual banks decrease.

If the price of the building outweighs it's cost, it's only right it should be closed.

The same thing is sadly happening to post offices, though I haven't had a cocktail in one yet.

Its a funny old world. One of my local pubs here (a Barracuda pub, such has the planned super-pub for Accy) has a cash machine inside. A withdrawal (whatever amount) costs £1.50p. However, right opposite the pub is a Safeway/Morrisons supermarket; providing you spend a minimum of a quid, you can get cashback up to fifty.....I must have a collection of about 300 one-quid lighters.

Sometimes these places make very nice surroundings - the one I mentioned in Brighton is a very old building, with the high ceilings and original stonework

I'd rather eat in an old bank than an old lavatory.

The old bogs that run down [excuse the pun,] the Northern line in south London they tried to sell off for 'leisure'/retail space.

The last time I was down they were still unused.
