Re: Enough To Make You Spit.
I think the spitting rule on buses was a hangover from the days when people used snuff and the spitoons were for people who chose to chew tobacco. There is no excuse for spitting in public these days. As other members have pointed out it is unhygenic and anti-social.

Re: Enough To Make You Spit.
 when you see that there is a reported increase in cases of TB it makes me wonder why people spit.
it would be great to be able to educate people about the danger of spitting and how that act can help in the spread of nasty illness like TB. as to the busses spitting was not allowed anywhere but smoking was allowed on the rear seats of single deckers and in the upper saloon on double deckers. i was having a "heated" disscussion one day when picking up my youngest from school (he now 22) with an Asian lady about the nasty act of spitting and got her to clean it up. years later had another Asisn lady spit on the floor of my amb and i gave her some tissue to clean it up!!!!! i for one will try to avoid contact with that sort of stuff!!!!!! :engsmil: |
Re: Enough To Make You Spit.
Spitting is a filthy dirty disgusting habit that should be carry some sort of penalty (death by being spat at springs to mind) My little'un at about age 3 thought it was ok to do it because the footballers on T.V did it. He soon learned the error of his ways and used to shout at anybody he saw spitting in the street.
one Asian lad at Bacup bus stop got quite a shock when he refused, at my request, to stop spitting. I threw up near enough to him for it to splash his trousers!! I was pregnant at the time and he was really turning my stomach. I warned him 3 times but he laughed at me. Served him right. I wonder if he ever spat in the street again. |

Re: Enough To Make You Spit.
I have to agree that it is the most disgusting habit. Most ordinary people are either not aware of the increasing TB rate, or simple don't care because they think it won't affect them.
I too have made a lady clean up spit from a hospital floor when she leaned out of bed and gobbed at my feet. I calmly handed her a tissue as she pointed at the domestic. I got the translator to come to the ward and get her to clean it up. I also got the translator to tell her that she was being discharged there and then, and got her husband to come and fetch her...:D I can't abide spitting.... |
Re: Enough To Make You Spit.
At least spitting gave that one act pony Bob Carolgees a career.

Re: Enough To Make You Spit.
Spitting is a sign of contempt for others. Proberly why we see it in sport.

Re: Enough To Make You Spit.
It's high time that our sporting celebrities stopped spitting and doing St Nick's flick (emptying their nasal contents) on the sports field. When SARS hit the Far East, places such as Hong Kong made it illegal to spit in a public place. I think the fine for spitting back then was HK$1000. This fine was strictly adhered to, as is the HK$600 for littering. You are fined the full amount and basically rot in a prison cell until it is paid. For a major city this place is scrupulously clean. We should do the same thing here...:)

Re: Enough To Make You Spit.
I hate seeing anyone spit, I often see mainly men fling one out of the car window, I dont think there's any excuse for it, they could put it into a tissue, I think its become a habit with some people.
