The King died.
Twenty eight years ago today Elvis Presley died.
Any one old enough to remember, what were you doing exactly twenty eight years ago on this day? I was camping with the Boy's Brigade in Scarborough, and hating it. I remember walking miles and miles by myself along the coastal path to phone my parents. I'd been brought up with Elvis's music, and it felt like we had lost someone we knew, daft I know. I've never been back to Scarborough since, and have only been camping twice since, and that was under duress. |
Re: The King died.
Oh dear,:(
I created this thread after wishing Mummiboo a happy birthday. I just checked and have seen she is twenty eight today. So we at least know what Anne and Mummiboo were doing. |
Re: The King died.
Sorry to wander off-thread a bit, but Bank Holiday Monday, August 29th could be a good day to renew your acquaintance with Scarborough. I'm sure it would be a much more enjoyable experience than the first time!

Re: The King died.
16th August 1977
On this day “The King” Elvis Presley was found dead at his home “Graceland”. The day before his next scheduled concert, Presley was discovered by his girlfriend Ginger Alden dead in his bathroom at Graceland. An unconscious Elvis Presley is rushed to Baptist Memorial Hospital around 3 p.m. Despite efforts to revive him, Presley is subsequently pronounced dead. I was working for a living on that day, that's what I was doing. Didn't mind his music..... |

Duh, sorry.:( Will I have to hand in my official supporters badge now? I will be there at Altringham tonight though.:) My parents were young teens when Elvis first ignited the world with his version of Rock 'n' Roll, it's the first music I remember growing up. Luckily I was careful as a child, when I used to play all my Dad's old LP's. Favourite Elvis cocert, the 1969 TV come back special, the one with the black leather, rather than the now much imitated white, Vegas, rhinestone encrusted jumpsuit years. I was twelve when he died twenty eight years ago, and I'm only thirty two now, which is all a bit strange.;) |
Re: The King died.
There is a thread in the nostalgia section about this. I think it's a couple of years old, so it may be way back in the section. I'll see if I can root it out.:D

Re: The King died.
Brand me as a sacrilegious heretic if you must, but I never liked Elvis........all my peers were mad on him and I didn't like him at all. My opinion hasn't changed over the years either.
I can't abide to watch his films. |
Re: The King died.
I was a school kid at the time and it was the summer hols! I've no idea about what I was up to! All I know is that you bloody well don't get six weeks off in the summer when your an adult!!!!! As for Elvis he was and still is top banana!!!!

Re: The King died.
I was at home looking after my 3 kids, then aged 13, 12 and 2. I can remember being shocked and sad because I had first hear Elvis when I was 13 (and he was 21) and had been a fan ever since. I was never so keen on his white jump-suit days but in the early days, and when he made the "comeback tour" film - dressed all in black leather, well all I can say is CO-O-OR! ;)
I'll let you into a secret. I have a large calendar on my wall at the office (yes, it's a 2005 one) and it's all pictures of Elvis circa 1956. A present from my son and daughter-in-law last Christmas. :D |
Re: The King died.
I went to a very early Beatles gig at Blackpool......screamed my head off, fell madly in love with Paul, and got my Dad's camera confiscated. It took me ages to work for the money to compensate my dad for the loss of his camera. I also liked Bob Dylan, but I never saw him in concert.

Re: The King died.
I was only 7 and dont remember feeling very much at the time, I still like his music and think he was quite sexy in his early days, watched a documentary about his life not long ago and thought it was quite sad, it made me cry anyway.

Re: The King died.
I was about 14 when he died. My then best friend and I would sing along to his songs and dream of seeing him in USA when we were older. The night he died I cried myself to sleep My friend called the day after and I expected her to be as upset as I was, but no she just said oh I know but I dont care now as i like some other pop star! I couldn't believe it and I remember we fell out over it.

Has stated in a previous post I didn't find out about Elvis's death till the day after. In his Black leather days he was just. Thee Man my heart just skips a beat thinking about it. But I just had to look at my beautifull baby Girl to make things better. 28yrs on Elvis is still the King and Our beautifull baby girl is now a beautifull young woman with two beautifull children her self. She will alway's be Mummy's baby girl to Me. It's Mothers perogative to embarass her children on there B'day. Hehe |

Re: The King died.
As everyone knows, Elvis was kidnapped by Aliens in 1973 and replaced by a robotic substitute. Aliens like to interfere in human affairs. From his secret hideout in the South Pacific (shared by Princess Diana and Lord Lucan) he is organising a mass restructuring of popular culture by the secret brainwashing of thousands via subliminal messages on the internet. Expect the whole world to break out in a rash of Elvis Impersonators soon
