does it make you tick when.....
Early on tonight i went shopping at the asda, now i only go once a fortnight and everytime i go i come out seething... tonight i entered the store in a great mood as soon as i went to go up the fruit and veg aisle my patience went out the window. there was agroup of at least 15!!people talking to each other all with there trolleys blocking the aisle. i did say excuse me but they looked at me as though i had 6 heads! so i then had to walk around them all and go up an aisle i didnt need to and come back on myself.Annoying!
Then at the freezer section there was a lady who had 7 children with her, they were all running up and down the aisle and sliding on the floor, i was looking in one of the freezers when my trolley mysteriously vanished, one of her kids had skidded right into it and hurt themselves. she had the cheek to turn around to me and say watch where your pushing that trolley!! if i could have had it my way i would have pushed that trolley where the sun dont shine! it just wasnt me that the children or the chatting people were stopping but other people too, most people were finishing work and wanted to get home. is it me that this happens to every time i go or does it happen to other poeple?? |

Re: does it make you tick when.....
I find supermarket shopping a really pleasant experience - provided I am on my own! I hate going at Willows pace! - - and it helps not to go on busy periods:D
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
If he uses your experience you'll have to e-mail him for a cut of his wage.

Re: does it make you tick when.....
Best time to go is 0945hrs on a Sunday morning, its very quiet I can do a full shop and be out by 1030hrs, checkouts dont open till 10am but thats not a problem for me.
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
Its not just you at all Baby. Whenever me and the missus went we had the same problem. In her case she just walked away. In my case I just kept on shoving the trolley:D

Re: does it make you tick when.....
I've got so fed up with the big supermarket shop and a recent back injury (as I only usually go monthly and just buy fresh locally) that I have resorted to shopping on line, not only is it delivered to my door but I end up spending less too! I have done it twice now and have only forgotten a couple of items. :)
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
ah but you dont get the treat of having a monkey pack your items into a bag so that your bread is sitting at the bottom with your leaking bleach on top of it!!!
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
Shopping online is brilliant!! I always used Tesco.com when I was in England. The computer saved my list so it was easy to do. The chap used to bring it all into my kitchen for me, bless him!
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
ooh do they deliver men too??? hmm might have to take a wee ganders at that!! lol
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
They do, Shiny, but costs a fiver, or it used to, may have gone up since then!! If you order twice a month it isn't too much of a problem. I had awful trouble with weights the first time I did it and got the biggest tub of marg you have ever seen. 'im indoors was well amused.
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
lol...hmm aman for only a fiver....seems like a good bargain..can you send him back if your now satisfied???
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
Got the same one every week which was a bit of a blow, cost me loads and I didn't want to keep him!
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
lmao..was he young and hunky??? coz if he is you can send him round to mine!!! lol
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
No, or I'd have kept him for myself! He was carting on a bit.............nice enough chap though. You best try it out for yourself, never know what might happen!
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
lol...knowing my luck id get the no frills (or whatever the cheap equivalent is at tesco) delivery guy...lol
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
Boo Honey, you are too nice.
It happened to me this week. After a polite excuse me, and you know they have heard by them looking at you- just to make sure they aren't deaf, a barge past with your elbows out, nice and pointed, usually works for me. I usually follow this with a loud sigh, and an audible mutter under my breath, of ignorant rude f**kin' b*tch/b*stard.;) |
Re: does it make you tick when.....

You don't have to drive, find a parking space, put up with other folk's kids............ I hate shopping and I used to get so stressed over it. I tried hiding my trolley half way through and sneaked out for a much needed ciggie!! You've guessed it, I had to start all over again! Oh, I so miss, Tesco.com!!
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
yeah just break it down... theres the parking as you mentioned, theres the assault course as boo mentioned then you are piling everything in your trolley just to take it all out to pile on to the till when you have queued for one that is, then you have to pack it all (I know you can get help but prefer to do it myself so I know whats with what in the bags), pile it all back in the trolley, load it into the car. Get in the car ... by this time my back is agony :( . Drive home, unload the car, then carry it all in and unpack it all.
Tesco.com.......click on the different depts and order what you want, decide when you want it delivering, delivery guy or gal delivers right into the kitchen if asked nicely and then you unpack it..... best fiver I can spend anyway :D |
Re: does it make you tick when.....
hmm...i dont mind the shopping too much..as long as its a quiet time, it gives me a chance to get out of the house..break my routine up a bit...and on the odd occasion theres a cute guy lurking around one of the isles...hmm cleaner required on isle 3 to mop up drool!!!

Re: does it make you tick when.....
I'm getting well homesick now!! We have lived in Spain for four years. The big supermarkets do home delivery but it's not an easy road to go down. First off you have to know what you want in Spanish, I know some of it but not all. Then.............no, I've decided not to go there!! I'm a sick sad puppy and miss Corrie too!

I stay home now and send 'im indoors! He can spend ages looking at tins of peas etc. I would rather go in, get it and get out! We had such a row in Gateway's one Xmas, I shoved the trolley out of the way and drove home. He had to walk. Xmas was a bit hungry that year. He still moans about it now.

Re: does it make you tick when.....
Going back to thread. I have found a brilliant way to get round Asda, complete with trolley.Wait till about 8pm, that way the refreshment dept is still open but spend 6 till 7.55 in the pub. People look at you strange when you crash into their trolley but soon back off when they smell the booze. hehe. :beer58:

Re: does it make you tick when.....
Supermarkets are an evil necessity and I suffer them with British stoicism.
It all starts in the car park. There is rarely a disabled parking space because some are taken up by vehicles not displaying the blue badge. The Blackburn Asda at Grimshaw Park has ATM machines near the disabled parking. “I’ll only be a minute” is the response that I sometimes get when reminding the illegally parked driver. Most times it is usually some uncomplimentary remark ranging from “Mind your own business” to “Go and occupy the cemetery you old goat”. In spite of many letters to the Asda management they will not go out and tell the offender to remove the car. All they do is put a piddling little flier on the windscreen but only when reminded of the offending vehicle. I have my own, which are much more to the point and highly visible to passers by. Inside I suddenly become invisible and take my life in my hands, as trolley pushers are never looking where they are going because she has seen something on a shelf that she might want to look at or wonders if she should buy it. If she doesn’t crash into my ankles, she stops with the trolley across the aisle practically daring someone to push past. People charge out of aisles into the main thoroughfare without looking. “Sorry I didn’t see you” is a frequent response as the collision sends me spinning out of control down the aisle. OF COURSE YOU DIDN'T SEE ME, YOU WEREN'T LOOKING WHERE YOU WERE GOING! I wonder if they drive their cars in the same way? If I see two people having a natter and almost blocking the aisle a “If you moved this trolley a bit further this way, no one can get past” is a comment that brings some strange responses. Why can’t I buy just two teacakes any more? Now it is packs of 4 or more. BUT I ONLY WANT TWO!!! Packets of bacon or cooked meat are rarely in packs of less than 10 rashers/slices. Supermarkets are not geared for the single person. Bread! First of all the shelf stackers ram the loves into the shelves with scant regard and in doing so squash the fresh loaf, which stays squashed. Why can’t they leave the bread on the trays that they were delivered in, like they used to? Of course that day’s delivery is always at the back. If I can actually find a fresh loaf and it hasn’t been squeezed to a pulp then the checkout girl grabs it around the middle and what I get is slices of bread with an hourglass figure. “Please don’t squeeze the loaf” to checkout girl usually brings the response “Pardon!” or she looks at me with a quizzical look as she grabs the loaf with one hand and crushes it whilst offering it up to be scanned. Own brand products are tasteless rubbish with precious few branded goods around any more. Packing? They haven’t a clue as tins of this and that get dumped on top of squashable items. I won’t let them pack my shopping. Finally, IF I have managed to find a disabled parking place I find that some clown has parked across my exit point as he stands in the queue waiting his turn at the ATM. As I said - Supermarkets are an evil necessity and I suffer them with British stoicism. |
Re: does it make you tick when.....
I hate supermarkets but as Jambutty says, they are a necessary evil. I try to go first thing in the morning. 7am during the week is a good time, you're in and out in half an hour. Christmas is definitely the worst time to go. Accrington Asda car park is a nightmare at Christmas with the pathetic traffic management measures which the staff like to put in place. They need 2 exits. I hate it when people who have all the time in the world block the aisles with their trolleys while they have a nice long chat. Supermarket shopping has turned me into a very rude person and I have bashed trolleys out of the way with my own trolley and carried on walking before now, but it does serve them right for ignoring my "excuse me please." I too find it difficult to buy things in small quantities and because of this, probably a third of all the food I buy gets wasted... I'm supposed to be going to Asda today, but quite frankly I can't be bothered....
Hehehehe, I think my tea may be courtesy of the Akash tonight..:D |

The high streets are awash with shops were there used to be the small independents, we now find them all under one roof at the supermarket. However there are still some, and I tend to use them. At my families bakery you can buy just one teacake if you so desire, and there is wheelchair access for all except the largest of scooters, when the assistants will come outside to serve you. I don't think my Mum would let you sqeeze her teacakes though, but after sixty years of baking them I can assure you they will be fresh. No squeezing then, but my Mum usually has the shopfull of people in stitches, and the caberet comess free.;) |
Re: does it make you tick when.....
I better say after reading through my post, my Mum hasn't been baking them for sixty years, before she lamps me, and people think she's older than she is!!!

Re: does it make you tick when.....
I hate supermarket shopping every week me and daddinboo end up ranting at each other!!
And i dont know why they bother with parent and child parking what is the point of putting in about 4 of these spaces when they are going to be taken up by either people who clearly dont have any child with them or disabled people who put their badge in the window instead of parking in their allocated spaces which are usually closer any way!!! And if i dont hear anyone saying excuse me its usually because i am too buzy telling my son who is sitting in the trolly to sit still and stop putting stuff in the trolly or trying to find my daughter who is usually in a world of her own usually fairy land and she has gone dancing off!! i hate it and i know he hates it and i know the kids hates it but it must be done. squashed bread pah im usually lucky if there is any bread left no matter what time of day we go there never seems to be any left and we still have to stop at the spar to get after all that. What a Nightmare. |
Re: does it make you tick when.....
i hated shopping with my kids when they were little, i well remember asda first opening on blackburn rd accy......... why did they always put the sweeties on the lower shelves, trolley full of unwanted toffe's then screaming kids when you put them back............. really glad they are older now, i do feel for young mums though .......its a nightmare.

He will walk round the spar wqith them in his hand and it just never gives him any reason to feel awkward. I think more men are like this these days. My dads era wouldn't be seen dead with anything like this, even talking about it sent him into a blushing, quivering mess. Which used to come in handy when me and tinks were teenagers, to get money out of him all you had to say was "dad can I have some money??'' dad would say "what for??" we would reply " ladys things dad" well his hand would be in his pocket, pulling money out left right and centre. I'm sure he knew we were liers because no woman has 5 periods in a month, lmao.:D But rather than stand there arguing about it with us, he would just throw the money at us, so he didn't have to have a coversation about it with his teenage daughters.:D |
Re: does it make you tick when.....
I think it is a generational thing. My Dad used to say they shouldn't be advertised on tv, how daft is that? It's just another product that most women will have used at some stage of their lives.
Wish I'd have thought to ask my Dad for pocket money for 'lady' things, I could have bought some washing up gloves!!! J O K I N G ! ;) |

Re: does it make you tick when.....
im all for the small shops as we have a family business that has been running for about 20 years in my family!!! its a convenience store and we dont let people say the four letter swear words in our shop (asda, spar) lol
|
Re: does it make you tick when.....
I dont mind shopping if I go alone.
If we go together from start to finish all we do is argue. Then we end up not speaking for days. It's my worse nightmare when he say's those dreaded words. "I think I'l come with you." MUMMIBOO's right Asda and Our lovely Grand-Daughter just do not mix. It has never bothered Mick going to the shop for any personal items I may need. |
