Hmmmm, on the radio this morning (BBC radio at that!) they said 67 rather than 69.

Streamlining all the different little bits and pieces can't be a bad idea. It should save money in administration costs alone.

I can't help feeling that there is something a bit irritating about the fact that people who have saved for their old age get less than people who have frittered their money away willy nilly.

Before anybody jumps on me for saying that, I do realise that there have to be safeguards so that people who have not had the chance to save or invest through no fault of their own don't end up starving or freezing to death in their old age.

its something they have been trying to do for years- raise the pension age, bottom line is they WILL at some point, since when has public opinion made a differance?i will argue the toss about it until they put me under-but i'm not too optimistic.

Raising the pension age is supposed to cut costs (obviously because they have several more years of putting in and several less years of taking out.) but surely streamlining a messy system will in itself slice off a huge chunk of the costs.

If you ask me the government would like to raise the pension age in the hope that the older people will die before having to pay out any pension that they rightly deserve.

Its not the raising of the age, but the fact that they are indicating that the pension would be available for every one regardless of their contributions to the system, just think what that could lead to. Don't get me wrong on this, but what about the can't/don't want to work people, should they be entitled to the same treatment.

What worries me is that people can work all there days to get a pension from the state but some avoid work all there days and get the same pension because the social pays there NI stamp for pensions.

There you go, that's something I did'nt know, having worked all my life and never claimed any ss, would'nt know how to go about claiming.
There are those that put in to the system, and those that take from the system.

Parky I know a few at it and they are PROUD of it. I work hard for what I get and feel cheated by those who dont. If it is a genuine reason that they cannot work then I have no problem but its the ones that fleece the system that annoys me.

The only thing about raising the retirement age is that there are some jobs which will be physically impossible to do reliably when you are over the age of 60. HGV and PSV driving springs to mind, slower reaction times, failing eyesight etc. Nursing and Midwifery frontline jobs, Ambulance crews, Fire personnel and Riot Police, Airline pilots, Matadors, Astronaughts.....Wow, this list could be endless....;)

A very good point, yes all demanding jobs, but the Matador one, that is a gem :)
