PC gone mad

We all know that political correctness is getting around like a bad dose of the flu but does it have to apply to the weather. I thought it was a sort of April Fools joke until the news tonight mentioned it. Has it reached the point were we are considered too frail to handle the truth of the weather. They say its for the larger part of the population will be happier but after watching the Channel 5 "weather sketch" then they must think we are blind. This is one change too many now

Hmmmmm. They were wittering about this on the radio and breakfast TV this morning. This example of of "Positive Spin" is, at best misleading drivel; the verbal equivalent of knitted lavatory roll covers! It proves, yet again, as if proof were needed, that there are an awful lot of people out there who have too little with which to occupy themselves; a great many of whom are graduates. I am all in favour of of getting as many people as possible into higher education, but you would think that some more worthwhile occupation could be found for them once they enter the real world.

What makes Channel Five weather people think we can't handle the awful truth......?I wish the media would stop putting spin on anything......I believe that we are adult enough to make our own minds up about news, weather or whatever.

I have never heard more of a load of old twaddle!

If there are going to be storms I prefer to know about it. I don't want to be lulled into a false sense of possibly not needing my umbrella when in fact I'm going to get drenched!

As for emphasising more on the weather in the evenings what about those of us who have to go out shopping during the day?

Whatever happened t the Campaign for Plain English?

Dread to think what they'd say if there was a hurricane in the offing. "Mostly bright with light winds"?

Plain English will never stay as long as there are people that think they can dazzle us with spin. As A.b says "Positive Spin" is, at best misleading drivel" and as Margaret says "we are adult enough to make our own minds up about news, weather or whatever" Someone is getting a lot of money for trying to make us out as "delicate flowers that need protecting" Brings a new meaning to being nannied. They must think we are all dull of mind and are best treated like a flock of sheep.

I too think its ridiculous, its not just channel 5, GMTV were on about it this morning, I think the weather should just be told accurately, we live in GB we know the weathers usually not that good!

Interesting article on the origins of Political Correctness written by an Australian....

It would seem that, from this argument, there is little hope of any let up in the tide of PC twaddle we are expected to swallow.
