Area Councils

Have any of you popped along to the area council roadshows? In Ossy for today but moving all around the borough for the next two weeks.

I went to look at it this morning. The area councils cost quite a lot of money to run each year, so what is your view on them?

I'm a bit torn because the Oswaldtwistle one always gets a good number of people attending but I'm well aware that some of the others don't get much of a turn out. They are quite expensively run by having a number of officers at each meeting, hiring the public hall etc, so do they give value for money?

What do you think?

Re: Area Councils

It's the usual few who care about their areas who turn up at Area Councils. The ones who couldn't care less sit on their backsides and do nothing until something happens that they don't like and they then kickup a fuss. I am all for any forum that lets the ordinary man in the street have a voice.

Re: Area Councils

I would be in favour of Area Councils if they had any real responsibility. But as they are set up at the moment they are just paying lip service to a government led idea aimed at increasing voter turn out.
