Pass The Member
Just a bit of fun. You write a very short autobiography of yourself, who you are, what you do, what you like and dislike etc. then nominate another member to do the same.
Can I start the ball rolling and nominate the first one to give us the low-down. Over to you - Harwood Red. :) |

Re: Pass The Member
I'm suprisingly 40. Well it's a suprise to me any way!
Born in Whalley, brought up in Oswaldtwistle. Attended Moor End Primary school, where for the last two years I had a wonderful teacher Chris Ryan, who reaLly inspired my artistic ambitions. Went to Queen EliZabeth's Grammar school in Blackburn, which wasn't very artistic, but they did knock a bit of discilpine in me. After doing art foundation at Blackburn College I did a degree in Fashion and Textiles in Liverpool. God this is boring, it's like a c.v. After a year working as a freelance deisgner/ illustrator, I made the big move to London. Ended up working as the creative director for a Jermyn Street shirtmaker. The company, Harvie and Hudson, was fantastic to work for, and I loved every minute of my time there. On a whim, after seventeen years in London, I moved to Glasgow, before moving back home to Lancashire in January last year. Two months after returning to my roots I was diagnosed as having young onset Parkinson's disease, which totally blew me away when I was told at thirty nine I would never be able to work again. A year later, my life is getting back on track. I have a great loving family, and moving back home was the best thing I ever did. I've made some great friends as well, all thanks to the magic of Accy Web. That's me.:) |
Re: Pass The Member

Well what can I say.............................
My name is slinky.....aka kinky slinky. I am 25 years young. I have 2 children, both boys 8years and nearly 7years in December. I am a auxiliary nurse by day, and something else by night;) . I am married for all my sins, and have been for 9 years on the 26th October. I don't have any hobbies, I am more of a 'fly by the seat of my pants' kind of girl, and do things as and when I want to do them. I hate people that that don't say what they mean, you have something to say, say it then deal with the consequences. I also hate two faced people and cowards. I have 2 sisters ( only one that I admit to) and 1 brother. I grew up in a mad house with tinks, which was a eye opener most of the time.:D Well that's all from me guys......................... I now nominate Accystanmel................... |

Re: Pass The Member
If you are sure you want to read this, then here goes....
I was born in Salford and came to live in Accrington at the tender age of six weeks. I left school without qualifications at the age of fifteen and went to Work for Walter Smith's Confetioners on Whalley Road, where I did my apprenticeship. However the wage was so bad that I left and flitted from job to job finally ending up at Ward Knowles in Ossy at the age of twenty two. I realised then that there had to be more to life than cutting up paper all day and so I left and went to college eventually earning my degree five years later. A lot of good that did me! I then went to work for a while in Paris and Vienna before settling in London for six years and for a year in Amsterdam after that. Then it was back home to Accy when my father died. It took a long time to get accustomed to the town again after being away for so long. I have enjoyed getting to know the town again, but I feel so sad and angry at the way it has been mismanaged and allowed to fall into the state it is in now. The idiots of HBC, on both sides of the political divide must shoulder much of the blame for this. But I am also aware that a lot of what happens here, or does not happen, is down to the people too. We all complain of the filthy streets but say little or nothing about the sorry fact that it is we who create the rubbish in the first place. What do I like? I like music, real music, music made by people who could not imagine a life in which they would do anything else. I deplore pop and all of it's genre's and sub genre's. It is easy, facile, superficial and just plain boring. I like music that makes me think, that challenges me and makes me stop what I am doing to listen. I like the line from Purcell " Music, for a while, shall all thy cares beguile." I like music that can transport me to places and situations that are a world away from everyday reality. For me, music has been a constant companion throughout my life and I am profoundly grateful to the men and women whose art and skill have given me so much pleasure. I also like Silence. There are tons of other things I like; I like swearing! the more vulgar and, frankly, obscene I can be the more I like it. Creative Swearing is a recently acquired pastime and one which I am eager to develop into something approaching a minor art form. I lo-o-o-o-ove Gin and home-made potato pie with a crust at least two inches thick and peanut butter on digestive biscuits and reading the Times on Sunday morning over boiled eggs and toast and taking my cairn terrier, Acrylic-biff, for long wallks on windy days. I am addicted to the internet and to accyweb and I cannot thank Roy enough for having the good sense to set it up and for keeping it going, it can't be easy, but it is appreciated. What do I dislike? Fads. People who are all style and no substance. Dishonesty; I would rather know what people truly think than have them spare my blushes. Ever-present pop music. Young people who think that they know it all. Politicians who would have you believe that they know it all. Smug, smart-arsed academics, who actually do know it all. Celebrities and the media which fawns on them. Walt Disney. Christian Fundamentalists and religionists of all stripes and flavours. Fish and Wet Fish Shops, the smell makes my stomach heave. People who are rude and people who are too badly educated to realise it. That's enough for you to be going on with I think. For the next confession I nominate Kipax. |
Re: Pass The Member
Thanks A-b, a really interesting read.
Did you pm Kipax to let him know that he's the next nominee? |

Re: Pass The Member
I’ve just been pm’ed and told I had to do this…..Cheers Spuggie. I’ve been posting on here for a little over a year. I was born at Church and then moved to Fern Gore before moving to the North West Coast. Like anyone else I’ve made mistakes I wish I hadn’t and all too often made them again. I like to walk in the high fells despite this I don’t like heights even though I use to fly…. I think I’ve been lucky to know some of the people I have met in my life and I have always had the utmost regard for those people who are genuinely decent, especially to others.
If you wait for a moment another victim will be along shortly. |
Re: Pass The Member

Re: Pass The Member
Hmmm......... I've just had a rather nice pm from Doug informing me that it must be my turn. I have only just got out of bed from last nights shift, but I will rise to the challenge....:D
I was born in 1968... (I know, I can't believe it either. Especially as I don't look a day over 30..) :D My early years were spent living in Church before the move to Accy when I was 8. I attended Earnest St infant school, Hyndburn Park then Peel Park Junior schools, then Moorhead was lucky enough to get me and finish me off......My formal education, that is.. I have 3 sisters and 3 step- brothers and a dog. Together with my 2 sisters who are also in their 30's we had a reasonable, bordering on happy childhood. We never had money when we were kids, but we had good times and we had each other. My third sister came along much later. I did once take the plunge and get married, but it didn't last very long, only 2 years. I get on well with my ex hubby but couldn't live with the git. I did my own divorce, no solicitors, no help and I came away with everything I wanted for a fraction of the price that our legal profession would charge. It made me a much stronger person and I will not be intimidated or take any flack from anyone. After leaving school I did everything in my power to avoid going to college. I wanted to earn money and have a good social life and I did just that for a couple of years. Deep down I am the sort of person who values education so I stopped messing about and started my nurse training when I was 19. I loved it, made lots of new friends and learned loads. After working as a staff nurse for a few months I was accepted to do my midwifery training. I have been working as a midwife ever since. I enjoy my job but it is always busy, usually stressful and the threat of litigation hangs over us on a daily basis. I think that the country is becoming more like the US in that way, and that people have very high expectations of the childbirth experience and are often disappointed. I decided about 5 years ago that I would do a professional degree in midwifery. It is time consuming and expensive but I will have finished it by next August and I can't wait. No matter how old somebody is, they should never stop learning. I love to travel and most of my hard earned cash goes on this luxury. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to visit New Zealand, twice, and the Far East. I can't wait to go again but I do have a wish list of other places to visit so I will get cracking on that list when the degree is finished. I joined Accyweb in August 2003 and have been addicted ever since. I met my boyfriend on here and we have a brilliant time travelling, having days out and going to the theatre. When I actually get time to do anything inbetween working, studying and generally dossing around with Sparky, I like to go for a long walk.....somewhere high, with a nice view... It's all a bit boring really, so I will pass the baton to somebody interesting and nominate Pendy........... You may have to wait for her though, I think she may be in Accy this weekend.:D |
Re: Pass The Member
cheers mez but going to have to have a beer and think about this one...........................WATCH THIS SPACE ?
|
Re: Pass The Member
