Already ....

Yesterday I noticed that the Next branches in Oxford Street have their Christmas decorations up. John Lewis has a Christmas tree in their window - just over two months before the actual date.

It gets earlier every year ......

The Christmas decorations are already up in Accrington's outdoor market.

The only good thing is the Christmas lights that have languished outside the Townhall all year are nearly in tune with the festive again.

I am suprised the bulbs havnt been pinched yet. And as they are not lit the council meetings cannot be as electrifying as the want us to believe.

I think its too early for Christmas deccys, though the shops will be trying to entice people into starting their shopping.

isnt it a shame that shops consider us so dumb that we cant remember that christmas is near and we need at least 2 months flashy lights and tinsel to remind us..?

dont forget to grab your bargains in the new years sales folks , they start nov 5th

Yes and who picks up the electric bill for this show of festive colour so early?

I can remember when Christmas started on Christmas Eve - and was all the more enjoyable for that. There wasn't the sense of anti-climax that you get if it starts too early.

No doubt the lights will go on in Oxford Street and Regent Street shortly, with the usual disruption to traffic - takes about three times as long to get home, just because some "celebrity" is throwing a switch. Bah, Humbug.

Its sad that christmas is no longer "real" now its down to how much money retailers can get out of our pockets. Just once I would like to see a christmas of old without all the fanfare and razzammataz. Whishfull thinking by me. :o

Christmas is different now. It used to be about all the family getting together at christmas for one day of the year - now people go away at christmas or they are spread around the country or even around the world. Christmas decorations go up so early though to get people to buy their presents early - if we didn't buy them so early maybe they wouldnt put them up so early. Mind you i cant say anything - i've still got a xmas decoration up from last year i forgot to put it away on 12th night so it had to stay out otherwise it would bring bad luck!

If not taking them down on time brings bad luck then boy am I in trouble.
