Like i said on another thread we are just easy soft targets for people to blame for everything as its been said here that other things are just as much causation.

Like drinking too much look at Besty at the mo & all the binge drinkers

As a non smoker, I'd welcome the ban, especially in restaurants, pubs, well I know there smoky but I still choose to go in, I also agree that alcohol is just as bad for you and also costs the nhs millions, but people who drink in moderation, providing they dont pick fights or drive aren't harming anyone else.

And better yet, we are going to be subjected to his diary on the subject......He's looking for sponsorship - the good thing is......(I was going to say he is donating his body to medical science, but that was just a bit of whimsy) the proceeds go to Cancer Charities.

Re: Smoking

They've brought this bill in about smoking in pubs and its a total mess. If your pub does food then you cant smoke in it. If your pub doesnt do food then you can smoke in it. If you belong to a private members only club you can still smoke. Can you see what is going to happen - pubs that only do a small taking on food are going to stop doing food all together so that they can still be a smoking pub.

I went to dublin where the no smoking ban is in place and i liked it. If i wanted a ciggie i had to go outside either the front door or some of the pubs had designated areas outside with patio heaters and chairs and umbrellas. I found that i didnt smoke as much because i had to go outside.

The only thing is though as i've been told once you get out of dublin and the main cities that a lot of bars/pubs have shut because of the no smoking ban. People because they couldnt smoke just didnt go out and so they lost a lot of business. Also the further you get away from dublin and the main cities it isnt enforced as much - so they are still smoking in pubs and bars down in deepest galway!

I think its going to be a hard law to police, I mean fines of £50 if you're caught lighting up, are there going to be patrols in all pubs, dont think so!
