Hard members.
After the Accy Web meet tonight, again the subject was raised that it 'wasn't as good as the good days'
This was aimed at a few people, myself included, who post quite a lot. It has crossed my mind before that people may be too intimidated to post what they truly think, and that makes me very sad. I can't imagine wanting to post, and not feel able to say something. Punctuation, spelling or grammar is irrelevant. If you have something to say, everyones voice is as important as the next, regardless of spelling, or style. So, if you are a reader, and feel like you have something to say, please don't hide your light under a bushel. Every voice deserves to be heard. |
Re: Hard members.
The good all days are here, now! .....and make the most of….
People are intimidated by others and do worry about posting. See stinks meat. etc etc hehe |
Re: Hard members.
LOL. I saw you online, reading this.:(
Ok, I do post a lot on this forum, and I like a good 'debate', but I would be horrified if people wanted to post something, but were afraid too because someone might disagree with them. If I felt that, I would never post because I know A-b could run circles round me. Do I look bothered? I think not.:) |

Re: Hard members.
I don't think it is intimidation over debates that stops people posting. Thing is, if you don't want to get involved in the heavy stuff you can post on the lighter threads.
I think it's because at first appearance it is a bit cliquey - there are a few of us who post quite often and have a sort of short hand or gossipy way of answering each other. Some people don't like to intrude - it's like the new kid at school syndrome where everyone else looks like they're in groups with mates. So to all new members - just remember we're all sat here on our own, we've all been in the same position as you and we've all just got on with it and thrown ourselves in. In a months time you'll know us as well as we know each other - don't be put off because you're not the life and soul of the party immediately, I'm sure you will be soon! |
Re: Hard members.
There are some parts of the forum I've never posted in because it holds no interest, or I feel I have nothing to add.
My argument back at last nights meet, which incidentally was the first to ever turn into a debate, was that if the more regular posters didn't post the forum would become sluggish, like it did the other week. It isn't a clique. I joined in January this year and remember posting about twenty times in the first night. I didn't step on anyones toes, and if I did so what? There is really no answer to this problem. Again I'd just say that everyone's opinion is as valid and as worthy as everyone elses, so please if you want to say something don't be afraid to have your say. |
Re: Hard members.
What I was trying to say - probably didn't come over right - was that it wasn't a clique but could just appear like that for a new member.
Don't know what the answer is myself because you can't bully people into posting if they don't want to. |
Re: Hard members.
think it would be a great shame,if people didnt post cos they may upset somebody, i am relativley new to the site and get karma deducted as often as given it,but nobody holds a grudge as ive discovered from the meets,so if you are a bit reluctant to post- don't be there are some great folk on here even if they dont agree all the time lol.

Re: Hard members.
hiya re; last nights disscussion, yes it was me who raised the points, there are times when i feel i'd like to post my opinions but feel sometimes that i can't get the wording right to make it sound as interesting as the other posts are .....so i stay clear.

Re: Hard members.
Like I said last night Mez, what is the answer?
It doesn't really matter about spelling, or being witty. Chav manages to get his point over without using either of those two things.;) |
Re: Hard members.
quite a few like me? who just read & enjoy or disagree & say nothing..........its a puzzle to say the least....but thats what forums are about...arn't they?
|
Re: Hard members.
I'll post until I get flamed. Then I might hide in a corner.
So far, thank goodness, no-one has bothered me! |
Re: Hard members.
Im a regular poster altho wasn't at first probably because it was mundane topics & obviously didn't know people [hey im honest] but that just shows the improvement:D
I've been on various net groups for years & very involved with a few of them & having that same dilemma 'it wasn't like the old days' with those groups at the moment, i dont with the increased flow of newbies changes the dimention of the group & not as involved as i used to be i mass delete now on those but im not like that with accyweb...yet anyhow pmsl, i dont know if im out growing them because the humour is sooo lost & thats the thing with accyweb i have a laugh & theres a few nutters that keep that alive [hey hope i live up to my residency pmsl], also the forum offers a wide range of forum topics & games to suit all. Suppose the thing with people is that you cant please them all:rolleyes: |
Re: Hard members.
We could encourage new members by making a point of posting in the first thread that they start - by looking out for new threads by new people (not just in the introduce yourself section) and adding a few comments - that way people would feel extra welcomed!
|
Re: Hard members.
Thing is with newbies & its same all over is that it is hard to get over the hurdle of lurking to posting, i did at first see what people are posting & get a sence of things before posting & it feels quite a big step to just jump into things, then after a while they do on the whole. The hard thing is converting the guests into members LOL!!:D

Re: Hard members.
We've had exactly the same thing on our local village website over the past 6 months or so. Unfortunately we have one or two members who get very uptight if anyone disagrees with them - and some of the biggest temperaments I've ever come across. What makes me laugh is when someone gets into a strop and makes a big statement about how they are "Never going to post on here again", etc., etc., as if they're waiting for somebody to plead with them to carry on. Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. ;)
I like Accyweb because there's not much of that sort of thing and even I, who left Accy 40+ years ago, don't feel like an outsider. :) |
Re: Hard members.
Although I missed last nights meeting, we have had a similar discussion before. I jumped straight in when I joined, and posted. The introduction threads were put there specifically for new members to post in to and get the ball rolling. There was no introduction section when I joined and you had to post straight into the forum. If people don't post in a forum (from the comfort of their own homes) for fear of not being agreed with, then how do they cope with everyday life??? It is human nature to agree on some things and not on others, a fact which most people accept. Isn't it much better to have a disagreement via a forum, than a disagreement and slanging match on your doorstep?....:D

Re: Hard members.
It dosnt matter what others thik of what you post if you believe in it yourself and believe it just then post it. There will always be disagreements over what is posted and it can get heated but at the end of the day that is what its about peoples thoughts on the subject. If we all took fright when somebody had a dig it would be very bare in here. All it is is friendly electronic conversation and everyone has a bad day and could take umbridge but then thats life. So post post and post some more lets get the site buzzing.

Re: Hard members.
I think new members should feel free to post if they have an opinion on the thread, I think I read more than I post but thats just me.
|
Re: Hard members.
When I was just a browser, as opposed to being a member.....there were threads that were so interesting that I wanted to become involved. That is why I joined Accyweb. I have never been afraid of posting what I think about a subject......I realise that in this huge world we live in...we cannot always agree with one another.....but we can agree to tolerate other peoples viewpoint. This is the essence of living together, whether this be in the cyber dimension or in real life...and it is what makes a community diverse and interesting.

Re: Hard members.
Quite a few of us have had the odd run in and recovered to maul our persecutors “said in fun” Accyweb is a macrocosm of a community and with all things human there’s bound to be close nit groups and some that will always stay on the peripheral. But it’s like anything else if you choose not to make the effort you can’t expect to get anything out of it. Those that choose to sit and enjoy what occurs on the sit are just as valuable members of our community as those that never shut up, at least their not doling out rubbish out of boredom. It is time that we had some genuine debates without someone having a paddy because they got there ball kicked, it happens to the best of us. I miss many of the older members who have seemed to have got the slippers and coco out and resigned themselves to ponder what makes the rest of us tick. At the end of the day folks you only get out what you put in, just like the rest of life……..
