I still go and see Wylie, he played in Blackburns North bar a few years ago and also tours as part of Dead Men Walking, with Mike Peters, Glen Matlock, Kirk Brandon amongst others. Wylies always a good night out and has a new album out "Pete Sounds" in the new year. And If you find his Songs Of Strength And Heartbreak album in a bargin bin somewhere, grab it ..It`s excellent!

Thanks for the links Mik, will keep my eyes open for the album.

How many of you have noticed the road sign which stands outside the derelict Commercial Hotel, by the traffic lights at Church? It is an historic road sign, going back to the 1930's and indicates the A679, Blackburn - 4miles and in the other direction,Accrington, - 1mile.

Look closely and you will see there is an arm missing, the one that pointed south, to Ossy, with a distance of 1/2 a mile. Whatever happened to it? Why was it chopped off? When did it go missing? Where is it now? Is there a reward for it's return? Who can answer this important question?

I have little doubt it's in someone’s bedroom nailed to the wall....

Good piccy, Doug.....do you remember (before they changed the roads around) the green traffic light box that used to stand next to the sign? There was always three or four old codgers leaning on it and smoking pipes...they must have been in their eighties - and this is going back to the 1960's. They may know what happened to the sign. Whatever happened to them, anyway?

You know I might just remember that. I think I have a period photograph showing the sign and the box? I’ll have a look for it later…….It’s a shame about the state of the Commercial, nice building.
